    Cool TR:Marching through Alp-alachia! A Powfamilial Resemblance

    Alpental Slackcountry 03/01-03/02/08, kids'n pow.

We have been stuck in the doldrums of winter for the last 2 weeks of February in the PNW. Yeah, there's been a little good snow left around to be had and even corn depending on the aspects, but nothing to get too excited about unless your name is Lani. In order to break up the monotony of re-frozen crud we had to get out of Feb and make a sacrifice to appease the snow gods(thanks man, it worked!).

8-10" on Saturday and another ~6" to bury the icy layer a little bit more. The Alpental slack country was in full affect both days making for a tasty pow harvest.

The gate to the upper entrance beckons

WTF??? Bluebird and new snow? Too good to pass up today.

    Christopher in his pow groove.

Emma's birthday is next week but we had a family celebration this weekend up at Alpental.

So what does a girl turning 7 get for her birthday from the grandparents?
Matching American Girl outfits from Nana

And, um, 110mm climbing skins from Grandpa.

I guess the one-track mind is heredity.

But Emma decided to forgo testing her new gear and use the High T instead.

Some guy skied by as she was going down and said she'd make someone a great wife someday.

I thought he sounded like a pervert.

Since I'm a science geek we did a little experiment.
Hypothesis: 80 mm waist skis provide ample float if you weigh 50 lbs.

    Brilliant!

I like powder DUR DUR DUR! (pics by Mofro Sr.)

I think we all enjoyed that.

    Wait a minute though.

    Someone's not smiling.

SMILE DAMNIT! IT"S FREAKING BLUEBIRD POW FOR CHRISTSAKES!!!! (parenting tips brought to you by crud's uncle)

This girl always smiles and laughs while skiing

Stroupskier and whorehey skied this line last Sunday with Sq99 and I.

    It was marginally better today.

Emma sets up for the slash turn:

Maybe a bit too much float? this is PNW powder we're working with here folks.

All it takes is a little powder to make Mofro completely forget about busted ligaments a eat some snow instead.

    I know it's a sign of glutony

    Burp.

    I actually feel satiated now.

    Ah Signing off.

Move upside and let the man go through...

As far as kid stoke goes, that's possibly the best I've seen.

    Definitely.

You are lucky to get to ski with your whole family like that. My dad couldn't skin 50 feet in anything less than a week. And thankfully I dont have kids.

When you are in a restaurant and there are these really loud screaming kids throwing temper tantrums; that is the best form of contraception.

This was the exact opposite - nice work.

It was all a whirlwind; freeze and flash.
Within a week we had grabbed our skis and hit the road.

I must agree with some of the other posters before me. . . that is some of the best, most motivation kid-stoke I have ever seen. (And not so bad re: the grown-ups, either.)

    Way to get after it!

Killer little rippers! Yesterday was an awesome Alpental day. I agree about that comment being perverted.

When that crusty guy made the comment about your daughter being a good wife one day, you should have put on your best Chris Hansen and asked him "Hey, come on over, so, what are you doing here today?"

Sick kid stoke, you look alright, too.

Always great to see you on the hill with the family. Three generations of Alpy valley tradition alive and well!

Saturday and Sunday were great, must have been on opposite cycles, think we saw you once before 2 opened.

Awesome kid stokeage. I've skied with Mofro's kids and they really do indeed rip as hard as the pictures suggest.
