    Bindings set to far back?

I bought a used pair of k2 apache coomba 102s with diamir fritschi freeride pro bindings last winter/spring and always felt like I had so much ski in front of me. I figured it was because I never have ridden on skis 183 long. I started my season last weekend and still feel like I have too much on front. I looked at where the center of my sole landed and it is roughly 2cm back from the center sole mark on the ski.

Should I have them remounted or should I just get used to it/there is nothing wrong?

diamer binding has a higher toe then heel (usually heels are 10ishmm taller then toes) so it makes that binding ski poorly overall

    1) remove the plastic toe shim that is below the toe

    2) remount the binding on center

    3) might not be the end of the world, I ski most of my skis 1-2cm back of center. Where are all your other skis mounted?

Back from middle or back from the mounting line?

2cm back of the line is pretty significant.

Some Apache Coombas had a miss marked mount line, i can't remember if it was forward or back. If you search i bet you can find this info.

    These are my only skis.

They are 2cm back from the marked center sole line that k2 has written on it, so it is even further back from the skis true center.

I don't have the money for new skis and honestly I like the skis just not how they are set up. I wouldn't mind getting a different frame binding to mount but that still is a bit over budget.

I have a first year pair of 181 Coombas (no rocker). They definitely ski and measure long. I'm 5'9", 165Lbs.

It's been too long since I mounted them to remember if I corrected any mis-marking on these skis.

Assuming I mounted them on the true recommended line, I could see being happy with moving them forward a cm but no more, and I'm not sure that it would improve things in any significant way. If I recall, the straight pull length on these is 183 and they definitely like to truck ;-)

For the record, I like a traditional mount, and go back about 1.5cm on various Praxis skis (GPO) and on the line with my ON3P Billy Goats.

I'd highly recommend the ol' "ball of foot" method.

    ^^^ and this

Do a little reading to find where the midsole line should be, and use a tape measure to find and mark it on your skis. Then either remount yourself, or get a shop to do it. Either way, omit the toe shims (if they're still there).

I've skied coombas on the line, and thought that location was fine. Some might go back from the factory recommended location a bit, but anything more than 1 cm is probably not a good idea. (all of that assuming the correct line)

If using the BoF method, I'll be surprised if it doesn't land pretty close to factory.

weren't K2's some of the first skis i remember reading about having the boot center line screened in the rong spot?

You need to find out what it should be and measure boot center from tail of ski

I do hear about people mounting back reasoning that it will keep them from going over the tips, I don't subscribe to that theory

so I had demo bindings on that premier dentist ski the 112 wailer which means I could set boot center anywhere from +6 to -2 with the flick of a switch and what I found was being at -2 in pow the ski felt like a ski boat that couldn't get up on plane, anything forward of that felt way better, even +6 felt better than -2 but I ended up at +4

I have also removed the FR+ shim to get less upright

Just to make sure ... you mean BoF at the center of the sidecut. Yes?

So they are 183cm straight pull?

Boot midsole should be @ ~79.5cm from furthest aspect of tail (IOW not from inside skin notch).
