    Post your Single Speed!

I'll start, just cuz it's pretty much finished and I'm stoked on it. The first 'real' mountain bike I ever bought, the fist Mountainbike I raced, and now I love riding it again!

    1994 Klein Rascal

    edit:
Just built up a new wheel for it around a Phil Wood Kiss-Off hub, money... No more bent or slipped axles for me! Kinda wish I could go disc on it but it's cool keeping it retro too.

Picked up this psuedo DJ bike from spankthepow for $200, added a shorty stem, some 2.6 knobbies, a bashring, and it's ready to go. Fun little bike.

And this is the no name chinese track bike I picked up for $200 off ebay brand new. I don't ride it fixed cause my commute is uphill all the way there, downhill all the way back and it would be a pain in the ass. I had to down size the gearing to 48/18 from the standard 48/16 too. Great commuter that I don't mind leaving locked up wherever.

My old hardtail converted. Still slack, still fun. Just beats me up a bit more. Slower on my local rooty and rocky trails, but really makes me pay attention to momentum and line choice. Now wearing a Panaracer Fire FR 2.4 in back and a Bontrager Big Earl 2.7 up front - they aren't too heavy, roll surprising decently, and give some nice cush.

Not ridden as much as the other bikes, but it's damn fun. Also the urban goofing around bike - very fun trialsy when the seat gets dropped.

    Behold...

The Colonel. She's changed a bit since these pics were taken, imagine blue CK SS hubs.

Love the bike. The quality and workmanship from Dean is impressive.

hahaha love the tags on this thread. Poor Rontele and his gheyness.

Doesn't look like I have a pic of my winter beater bike that was set up singlespeed.

Beefy Brodie Bruzza frame, Marz 66, Doubletrack with 2.7 Hutch. It was a beast compared to all these little xc rigs posted.

I love the Klein. My first single I built was a '94 Attitude Race, sweet bike.

But here is the new SS, custom 69'r

    Me too.

kchri's Stingray brings back a flood of memories. Like being able to jump without breaking the shit out of myself. Mine was a sweet red Custom - fenders, two speed kick-back, front hand brake - that I pretended was a clutch. I could wheelie that baby for-e-ver!

My current single speed project bike is in pieces, but it will look something like this.

I still need wheels, brake levers and a few others pieces parts.

pic to follow: but i took my 12 year old steel Yeti ARC HT and got that Phil Woods singulator hub to make my SS. The Yeti lives! Nothing better than the old steel HT, i forgot how much i missed her (she sat in the garage neglected for 3 years after i cheated on her with the younger and sexier slut known as Blur. But she is back!

these pics are when I first got her last summer. She now has a seat post of course, but I don't feel like going out and taking any more pics.

The steerer tube also cut down and is now basically flush with the headset.

New wheels are on order as well (blue Hope Pro2 SS hubs laced to DT Swiss 4.2D's)

The Unibomber! This is an old Univega Sport Tour that I've had since I was 15. Converted it to SS a few years ago and threw on some bomber tires. Love this bike!

Great bikes! Ok, total bike mtb noob when it comes to wrenching, plus don't have time. I'm dying to convert my '97 crackandfail F400 to a SS. I love the frame and think it's a perfect candidate, although I will need a tensioner- I'm pretty sure about that.

Anybody have recs for the Boulder area where I can enlist help? This thread makes me jealous. Thanks!

Just finished changing it over with spare parts. Would using a 9 spd chain with a single speed cog cause chain skips when heavily torqued?

Joining the ghey fest with my noble steed.

    I call it, "Kristmas Kermit".

Edit: Wanted to thank the mag who sent me my rear v-brake. I forget who it was but they're good people. The now departed (?) uncle crud also supplied me with a stem which I used in the beginning.

A different angle on the Unibomber. Did I mention that I love this bike? I should, I've had it since 1981.

    Nice rides!

    Condundrum, that tranny is super-pimp!

Jax, you prolly will need a tensioner but maybe not. You can buy a spacer kit on price-point pretty cheap to remove all but the sprocket you want from the rear freehub. You may have to cut the pins holding the cassette together with a hacksaw or something. You can also find chain half links on price-point, they let you add, wait.... a HALF LINK! This MIGHT let you get by without a tensioner.

If I'm not mistaken, Marshal Olson has a new shop in the area and I bet he could help you out.

Look at the tags! And you wonder why you're seeing adds for gay dating sites.
May I ask why you would want such expensive shocks and brakes and such on an SS?
    No longer stuck.

    D -
this reminds me, we need to go riding soon. I'll be in Laguna Niguel this Monday afternoon riding with another friend (after a swim in the ocean at CdM) if you're interested in taking a sick day. Or, we can always go July 13th if you're available (sunday).
