For centuries the ancient town of Nazaré was thought of only as a small fishing village along the Portuguese coast, if thought of at all. That all changed in 2011 when big wave legend and surf pioneer Garrett McNamara recorded himself with a GoPro riding down the face of a 78-foot behemoth within spitting distance of the town’s historic lighthouse. Since then, the once quiet town has been flooded by surfers and the town’s economy has been revitalized.

Last week on 60 Minutes, Anderson Cooper explored Nazaré on a jet ski while simultaneously interviewing McNamara. We gotta hand it to Cooper, it's downright impressive, and the story isn't too shabby either. Watch the 13 minute segment above.
