If you don't have the patience to watch an excellent surf edit then skip ahead to 5:50. According to an interview Meola conducted with The Inertia, his original intention was to not go for the 540. He got so much pop off the lip that when he rotated the spindle flip he just continued to the 540. Regardless of how this trick came to be, it is an excellent five seconds to watch on repeat for the rest of your Friday.
