Samsung recently came out with a video featuring Brazilian pro surfer Gabriel Medina, promoting their latest innovation: The Samsung Galaxy Surfboard. The board delivers instructions for the world champion from his coach in real time, it also displays current conditions of the wind and waves, as well as receives messages of encouragement from his Twitter fans. The board presents the messages and information using LED lights installed on the deck.

Samsung expresses that it's a negative thing for Medina to be disconnected from his coach and fans, but isn't being disconnected part of the essence of surfing? The ocean is one of the only places where we can fully detach ourselves from our devices. Though it might be nice for Medina to be able to read a text from his dad while in the lineup telling him to "hit the lip with more power", I'm not sure it's completely necessary. Could this be where surfboard technology is headed?
