In the 1998 Nagano Olympics, Whistler native Ross Rebagliati won gold in snowboarding giant slalom. He tested positive for cannabis shortly after his victory. Despite initially confiscating his medal, the IOC later found that Rebagliati hadn't violated the Olympics drug policy because marijuana wasn't considered a performance-enhancing drug at the time.
In this short film, "Carving on Cannabis," Rebagliati, now a skier, talks about how consuming cannabis helps him eat consistently, and maintains his focus during training. Essentially, he makes the argument that weed is the ultimate performance-enhancing drug because it reduces inflammation and decreases anxiety. What do you think?

It’s not. PEDs speed up recovery and help with performance. You can get inflammation reduction by using aspirin and ice or massage/foam roller. it doesn’t take much effort to eat consistently and hit your macros while training.
Weed doesn’t help athletic performance but it doesn’t really hurt it either just as long as you’re taking care of your lungs.

Are we seriously posting full on advertisements for some ex-olympians weed start-up on a skiing/snowboarding website? I understand we watch promo videos for atomic, TNF but those are all generally focused on the sport. This is a shameful plug disguised in the cloak of another ski/snowboard video.

Not sure I would agree that it’s a performance enhancing drug. It sure makes the experience more enjoyable and blissful, but i’ve found it throws me off balance compared to riding with a clear mind and I tend to take it a little easier on my runs while high.
I think a lot of regualr users like myself deal with unusual eating habits usually attributed to the fact that weed triggers hunger. My theory is that it’s a more of a problem caused my weed that can also be remedied by weed than a regular eating disorder.
I think weed is a great thing and I’m glad I have the PRIVILEGE and not the RIGHT to use it. I know i’m a recreational user and I don’t “need to medicate” I just get high like I would get drunk and I know nothing good comes from getting drunk. I enjoy smoking a bowl just as much as i enjoy drinking a beer and the day that the two won’t stir up some sort of crazy debate is the day I look forward to.
