The wait is over! The 2019 Freeride World Tour kicks off in Hakuba, Japan today, with plenty of snow and good weather for riders. With several riders out for this competition with injuries, Canadian freeski legend Kye Petersen has entered as a wildcard. Petersen was named 2017 Skier of the Year by Freeskier Magazine, and is known for mind-bending film parts over the last decade. He debuted on the FWT in 2012 with a win in Revelstoke. He will join Tanner Hall and Travis Rice as wild cards in Hakuba.
