158 MPH – Ivan Origone Breaks Speed Skiing World Record

OFFICIEL - Record du monde de KL - 254.958 km/h

254.958 km/h sur des skis... C'est signé Ivan Origone et voici la vidéo du run le plus rapide du monde... :-) (y)[ #FouDeVars ]

Over the weekend, Italian speed skiing world champion Ivan Origone broke the record for the fastest man on snow, hurtling down a specially-groomed piste at France's La Fôret Blanche ski resort at 158 miles per hour, or 254 kilometers per hour.

Origone accelerated so fast, he beat the off-the-line speed of a Formula 1 car, getting up to 125 mph (200 kph) in just 5.5 seconds. We're guessing he spent the past year living in a wall sit just to pull that off. Kudos, sir!

Amazing speed, but….

You need to check things before posting them; No way could the skier have accelerated that fast! To go from 0 to 125 mph in 5.5 seconds means that he would have to accelerate faster than gravity would allow - 1.04 G’s, actually. He could not do that in pure free-fall with somehow having zero aero drag, never mind on a 70+ degree slope with both air and ski drag!

Also, an F1 car can accelerate 0 to 125 mph in less than 4.4 seconds, not 5.5, at about 1.45 G’s average - and with HUGE amounts of aero drag.

Totally agree, not only with the stated facts, but also with “check things before posting”. This particular situation has a nearly irrelevant impact. However, it is greatly due to the fact that many journalists and other people who write content or share other people’s content don’t “check things” before posting, that the world is full of ignorant people who’ll believe just about anything they’re told.

Other parts of Colorado were affected by avalanches as well, prompting closures of Wolf Creek Pass, Red Mountain Pass, and Lizard Head Pass.
