Teton Pass Road Closes AGAIN Due to Avalanche

For the second time this week, Wyoming Highway 22 over Teton Pass was forced to close after an avalanche ran across the road. The avalanche ran down the Twin Slides path, depositing debris 30 feet across and six feet high. As of this morning, it is unclear whether it was natural or skier triggered. Nobody was reported to be buried, but skiers and snowboarders were traveling in the general area.

WYDOT asks all backcountry travelers to leave the area so they can perform more mitigation work before re-opening the road.

The Bridger Teton Avalanche Center lowered the danger to Level 3 – Considerable from High, but warned that "Today's sunshine could increase the sensitivity of these slides to human triggers and natural releases. The snowpack remains unstable and is settling at rates of 8 to 12 inches per day to compensate for that load. Patience and conservative terrain choices are essential until the snowpack finishes adjusting to the massive loading that has occurred during the past five days."

What a mess. I hope they get the road closed soon so we can repave the road

I also need to get Demolition Dayton in there to clean out the snow and rocks.
