TGR’s Best in Culture

2019 was certainly an eventful year for the Culture section. We learned about the probability of dying by all of our favorite sports and activities. Epic Resorts somehow acquired Everest for its 2020 ski pass and after a jaunt to the world's tallest mountain, you can return home to your Amazon-purchased tiny home. We heard about surviving on only a trust fund in these trying times as a ski bum and how to run a marathon in ski boots while doing it.

We hope 2020 will be just as entertaining.

To understand how these numbers compare to more "natural" causes, see this US data from the Center For Disease Control.

KATHMANDU, Nepal — The ski industry was further shaken up Friday when Broomfield-based Epic Resorts announced they’ll be adding Mt Everest to their portfolio of ski areas for the 2019/2020 ski and snowboard season.

After selling out of tiny homes in a viral flurry a few weeks ago, Amazon has finally restocked. With a warning that the product is not available on Amazon Prime, nor can it be shipped just anywhere, you’re gonna have to really want this one.

Life in San Francisco was tough. At 26, I’d already earned an MBA, built a successful career, given a TED talk—even bought a house. And despite having a head full of dreadlocks, I’d even found investors to fund my startup.

Running a marathon is its own kind of misery, but if you wanted to make the experience significantly less enjoyable try wearing ski boots. You might think we’re being outlandish, but Dr. Paul Harnett just broke the Guinness World Record for Fastest Marathon Time in ski boots at the London Marathon.
