To All College Students: Don’t get a job, just work at your favorite ski resort

I, like most others, would rather be in the mountains than at work. A few of my friends worked at a ski resort during college, and they said it was their favorite job, because it didn’t feel like any other job. It didn’t feel like they were going into work every day. Rather, they were doing something they enjoyed, and spending the rest of the time hitting the slopes.

A ski resort usually hires employees every winter, and they may hire 100 to 1,500 employees. There’s usually plenty of work available. Employers usually need employees to manage the hotels, cook food, serve beer, patrol the slopes, manage the terrain park, fit boots, scan tickets, give information, market the hill, teach lessons and more.

Every employee who works at a ski resort usually has the same goal, and that’s to have fun and to ski or snowboard as much as possible. Usually the work environment is flexible. It may seem daunting to get a job at your favorite ski resort, but it’s possible if you know how to present and prepare yourself.

Apply Early

If you apply early, you may have a better chance of getting your dream job at your favorite ski resort. Most ski resorts look for staff throughout the entire season, but most of the time, well-known resorts try to fill their rosters before the season begins. You'll need to comply with the hiring dates and apply for the job at your favorite ski resort at the right time.

Check The Requirements

If you're going to go work in another country, you'll need to meet specific requirements regarding passports and more. The employer should do this for you, but stay on top of things just in case the ski resort doesn’t. You'll usually be required to get a tax number, and you may be required to get a background check.

Prepare For The Interview

Before you schedule an interview with the employer, you want to do some research about the company. Think about the questions the employer may ask you and think about how you're going to answer them. Being prepared for an interview can be the key to getting the job.

Present A Cover Letter

If you don't know how to write a cover letter, you can hire resume writers to write one for you. If you choose to write a cover letter yourself, you only need to write a few sentences to make your point. First, you want to talk about the position you're applying for. Second, you should explain what you like about the company. Third, explain how your experiences match what they are looking for. Lastly, be sure to show enthusiasm.

Even if you aren't completely qualified for the job, you should still apply. All you have to do is to convince the employer you have the skills, the resources and the ability to be their best employee.

Ask Questions

When you go to your interview, you'll want to ask questions. If you don't ask any questions, it may make you look like you're disengaged or not interested even if that isn't your intention. Before you go to the interview you should think about the questions you want to ask.

Send A Note

If you want to stand out from the competition and show appreciation for the interview, you should send a note. Be sure to send it within 24 hours of the interview. Thank the hiring managers for taking time out of their schedule to meet with you. You can send the note through email or the regular mail. Before you sent a note, be sure to check your spelling and grammar. Names should be spelled correctly.

There are a lot of advantages for working at a ski resort. Some of those advantages may include getting a free season pass, free ski and snowboard snowboard lessons, access to staff housing, discounted food and more.

Working at a ski resort is a great opportunity. All you need to do is prove to an employer that you’re worthy to work there.
