I was invited to Black Diamond HQ yesterday afternoon to ask round-table questions and get a general pulse on his climbing feats lately:
I inquired about his Honnold Foundation and if he had any future projects in the works around Bears Ears. Alex said he’s teaming up with Black Diamond to sell products to benefit the Access Fund which directly nourishes efforts to protect climbing areas all over the country.
As we all know, Alex Honnold doesn’t experience fear like the rest of us and some Brain Scans were done on his noggin which you can read about here: http://nautil.us/issue/39/sport/the-strange-brain-of-the-worlds-greatest-solo-climber He spoke about this brain-study and said he’s afraid of normal things too, like commitment :).
Jimmy Chin is currently working on a film about Alex’s FreeRider solo of El Cap – so stay tuned for that coming out sometime in the next year.
When I spoke with Alex after his talk, I asked him about Animal Liberation (A book he recommended) and he is still an avid Vegetarian who loves lentil soup and is deeply rooted in topics such as health, wellness, and balance.
Alex says lately, he's been sport and gym climbing around his new home of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Stoked to see what else Black Diamond has in the works for future climbing projects in conjunction with Alex and the climbing community!
