This Infographic Explores the Economic Impact of Winter

climate change and skiing - Skis.com

This infographic, from the skis.com's blog , is only a small snapshot into the economics of the snow sports industry, but there's a bigger lesson to be learned here. The livelihood of communities all across the country hinges upon winter.

RELATED: The Fragile Economics of Winter

Annually, 23 million Americans participate in some form of winter tourism. Closing a ski resort equates to closing a manufacturing plant, which is evident in the fact that low snow years saw a loss of over 17,000 jobs in comparison to average years. If the data concerns you, the first and easiest way to make an immediate difference is to get out and vote on November 6th

But don't let the momentum stop at the ballot box, another way to get involved is the 1% for the Planet's newest My Planet Pass. It's like a ski pass but for environmentally focused causes. By purchasing a pass, the holder will become a member of Protect Our Winters, National Forest Foundation, Save the Waves Coalition, Tree Sisters, and Slow Food while also scoring a bunch of exclusive member benefits and gear. Their hope with the pass is that it will encourage a larger, more diverse group of individuals to support environmental causes.
