Rafting Through the Rivers of India

The water rushes over you as you surge through the wild and wavy rapids of the Sindhu River that stretches for over 3,180 km. "This is the place," you tell yourself as you stand in silence, taking in the mountainous landscapes of India. River rafting has become a popular trend in action-adventure sports, but in India, this new trend has a somewhat new presence because it has just started as a trend. You choose based on the difficulty level that ranges from Grade I, which is basic to Grade II and Grade III, which are more moderate. If you want a real challenge, then Grade IV will be give you the memory of a lifetime.

The Indus River

Also called the Sindhu River, the Indus Rivers runs 3,180 km, and you will be adventuring through one of the largest rivers in Asia. The rafting season starts in June, and it ends late September. Between these months, the water level of the Indus River starts to rise, which makes it a popular hotspot. The Indus River has also been called Singhe Khababs, and you have a variety of rafting points like Upshi, Nimo and Leh-Manali. Rafting here, you are guaranteed to take home the memories of a lifetime. Take memories home in the form of souvenirs such as handmade crafts, small handmade furniture such a wired, and don’t forget to use upholstery cleaners to maintain the furniture. You can think back on all the wild times you had rafting the raging rivers in India.

The Indus River has grade I rapids, and it covers around 25 km. The best time to put paddles to the water here is between July and September.

Kullu Manali

Manali, found in Himachal Pradesh, is known for trekking, skiing and other adventurous activities. River rafting has become a popular choice in the river Beas. You have private operators at Pirdi, which can be found closer to Kullu. This region has become a one-stop location for action-adventure water sports. You can rush down long stretches of the Beas river and feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins and heightening your senses. This river has Grade I and Grade III rapids, and it covers a distance of 14 km. Your best time to river raft here is between March and June.

Rishikesh

Found in Uttarakhand in Gahwal Himalaya, Rishikesh offers one of the wildest river rafting experiences. You can surge through the rapids all the way to Brahmapuri to Rishikesh or Shivpuri to Rishikesh. All the rapids have been given unique names, such as:

  • Double Trouble
  • Return to Sender
  • Golf Course
  • Cross Fire
  • The Wall
  • Three Blind Mice

In Rishikesh, you will find rapids of every difficulty level from grade I to grade IV rapids. Rishikesh covers 26 km, and the best time to visit Rishikesh is counter intuitive to the other options. You want to visit from between mid September to mid June.

Kemeng River

Finally, you have the Kameng River that originated as a glacial lake just below Gori-Chen Mountain. The Kemeng River stretches for 264 km, and you will see some of the most beautiful landscapes here. The impulsive flow has the potential to give you some of your best river rafting in India. These are grade IV rapids, and they cover 25 km. You can visit Kemeng in November through March.

Connect with the nature around you, and take in the breathtaking mountains of India, while learning how to flow with the raw and sometimes violent forces of nature. Whitewater rafting is very safe and only 30 people die per year on rafting trips. A great sport to try out.

Brahmaputra River, Arunachal Pradesh
