Thanks Gold Member.
I haven't reached out to my buddy as I know that either way, he will have a lot on his hands right now. I do know that he wasn't one of the fatalities, so that's good.

"" In a statement Thursday, Avalanche Canada communications co-ordinator Lisa Perazzoli said Wednesday's fatal avalanche was a size three — big enough to bury and destroy a car, damage a truck, destroy a building and break trees.
She said the slide broke on a southwest aspect at alpine elevation, approximately 2,500 metres, and was a "deep persistent slab avalanche" caused by this season's weak base layer ""

Just want to add a little tidbit to this…
Feb 28 I was ski touring in the RK honey hole and their group dynamics were questionable. Group of 11, I assume same group next day in the avalanche as a Bell 212 seats 12 in ski mode. Anyway they were skiing 7-9 people at a time, putting a large amount of stress on large alpine slopes across from us with various members stopping on thick and thin spots mid run… guess that is why we have such a large # involved….both my partner and I questioned the confidence in the snowpack the guides were giving when the PWL was still present…
We did snow stability test at treeline with a 265cm base/ 60cm of basal facets and had moderate sheers multiple times with column tests on the basal facets. No other results through the columns
