When the ex and I were leaving the Logan Pass lot at Glacier, in pretty sure we could've gotten $100 for the spot as long as we were winning to fight whichever of the two women who were trying to get the spot lost the auction.

Logan Pass is a shitshow, even with the reservation system. I remember going to Logan Pass in the 80s in the middle of July and the lot was half full.

Confirmed, it was a Xanterrorist. Crazy shit, like I said before, I would expect one to maybe get stabby, because they were always too destitute to be able to afford a gun.

Get super fucking hammered. Dorm employee w no car most likely. All they do is work and drink. Add in some drugs a fuck this attitude and voila. Pretty sure there is an employee bar where ppl drink their entire pay.

I've heard from multiple ppl never to work for xanterra.

Thankfully he didn't kill any random ppl and was quickly killed by usfs.

Yes, there is an YNP employee pub, which we were banned from. Any time the crew went in there, the workers would quickly start sniping the already thin pickings from the Xanterra talent pool, buying drinks with fat rolls, which always lead to hard feelings from the destitute xanterra males. Inevitably some little dweeb xanterrorist would start in with a construction worker with the predictable results and park police intervention, hence the ban.

Nobody got shot though, which was a surprise because we did have some drunk with guns incidents like any other construction camp. Funny thing was, if you didn't want to work in the park anymore, you could call the HR guy every day for weeks and there never was anywhere they could plug you into. Get a DUI or do some other fuckery in the park and get banned, and suddenly the company had a spot for you on a project closer to home. I think some of these guys actually saw it as an incentive to do some shit to catch charges.

And I'm convinced Xanterra is why West Yellowstone is such a weird place, after the season is over a lot of the skeezier ones get marooned there because they don't have enough money to get home, or anywhere else.

This is so sad. Violence in the national parks is so rare.

A couple years ago, I passed through that area, met a girl who worked the entry station and lived in those same employee apartments, had a little fling, and crashed at her place for a bit. I lost touch with her, and lost her number, don't do facebook etc, but she was right around the same age of the woman held at gunpoint, 28, so this hits home a bit hard for me. Hope it wasn't her, but at the same time, it was someone.

I also feel horrible for the cops that had to shoot the guy. A few cops out there have a murder boner and are just waiting to ice someone, but Park service LEO are typically just good people with servants hearts that probably have nightmares about this now.

I did not realize the park service was that armed.

    What a world.
    Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
    Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason

Every LEO has all that shit in their car. Training is another story, but we're looking at, what handguns and a carbine or two?

While not common, there are times where they end needing to use lethal force against the critters. Given the local critters, they probably have a better reason than most to be well-armed.

And that's before you consider that Yellowstone is in three states that all tend towards the well-armed side of the scale.

I've never made the argument that more guns will make society safe. I do make the argument that trying to get rid of guns to make the world safe never makes the world safe, and is a slippery slope not just to complete bans on guns, but to more authoritarian government and state violence foreign and domestic, as well as corporate exploitation of people. I also believe people have the right to self defense, and if they really want to off themselves, they shouldn't involve anyone else.

but lets save the gun debate for other threads. If you're capable of restraining yourself from expressing your distorted obsessed idea of what you imagine my views are.

Critters (and being well funded) actually lead to mnt town cops having all sorts of shit. Had a cop give me a tour of his gear years ago when I was in high school. One dude in a squad car had a sidearm, taser, all that shit on his person, but also, a carbine, a paintball gun with different hoppers for tear gas rounds, and some anti wildlife rounds, as well as a 12g shotgun with rubber buckshot, firecracker, and bean bag rounds for the bears as well as I'm sure slugs and buckshot just in case.

As noted about being a long ways from backup for NP, Game wardens, etc, even small towns, officers are likely to have to deal with bears with one or maybe two officers, including crowd control of humans.
