6 is spinning and has a Closed sign with patrol going up. No mention on the X ops page. Website says its scheduled with terrain from Zach's to Rabbit Runs open. Kid and I will be around this weekend for sure.

Anyone know if they had set up paid parking for the Chir 6 lot yet this season? Or is still free?

Was free yesterday for me and my fam. First time parking there, usually park in the shantytown lot.

I think Roundhouse any day now with just Rock Garden and Weasel One. Then they will work on Dance Floor and maybe Charity. Summit is going to be a long while.

I think I almost would rather read bitching about parking reservations than the latest update on snowmaking. Almost.

Tahoe '23/'24 - Reserve Now For Best Pricing!!!

Backcountry skiing has been nice. Still boney out there. Was nice deep powder Thursday and Friday, but has mostly consolidated down to about 3" of ski pen in my local spot, save some very protected pockets, ymmv. Lots more sharks popping up every day. Snow is faceting up high and surface hoar is forming below the inversion.

I was gong to drive out to Idaho this week but my clutch broke by the time I got to Reno. Lucky me.

Little stoke, little bitching - it equals out.

    Pics from today and Friday.

Ye of little faith it's not even winter yet. Plus the hype train is just starting to roll with the GFS showing 11 inches of precip between now and the 27th.

G2A, if you want to get superstitious, We can all carry our share...

After missing most of last season with an injury I planned to hit it hard this year:

    - multiple Alpine and Nordic passes for the whole family
    - snowmobile acquired
    - multiple new boards in a variety of shapes, sizes and disciplines
    - all gear tuned, waxed and ready by 11/1
    - snows on cars by 11/1
    - all winter yard/property prep done by 11/1

    Locked and loaded

Last time I said something along these lines, I jinxed it. Hopefully that was just because it was me. I will not say these things anymore.

I missed last seasoned this one is rolling in just as it works for me. Barely adjusted to being back at home. Had fun the other day, and will again this weekend with the kid super stoked on getting out. Hell, we are still figuring out gear and scrapping wax of skis at this point. Maybe this is my age and not travel fatigue, but I'm slow to shift to the snow and still mostly focusing on the surf and dirt. Although the facets forming in the bc kind of blow, if there is something in need of complaining about.

Bring it on. Every inch counts this time of year.

    That’s what she said. ;-)

With little terrain open, how busy have OV and Alpine been mid week? I’ve been caught up with other obligations and have barely made any turns but hopeful for next week.

This is the first year I’ve ever had TWO new pairs of skis ready to go, so the lack of snow may be my fault.

But in my defense, they’re more low-tide at 87 and 102, so maybe it should actually be dumping?

It’s empty on Red Dog. Parking lots fairly empty. Some of the iciest conditions I’ve ever skied on this mountain tho.

This may have been asked in this thread already, but how the hell are they going to verify reservations? Won't that create a shitshow traffic jam too? Especially when the technology breaks down and JoeBlow is saying he made the reservation and Ticketchecker is saying "nope, don't see it" assuming that's how they'll do it.

I talked with a PTOV meter-maid-dude (OMG - a meter-man!!!) on Sunday about this. He was in the process of writing a $200 ticket (!!).

PT hired a third-party vendor. Vendor's employees walk around the parking lot, punching license plates into an app. If there's no reservation for that license plate, they print a ticket then and there (he showed me his printer - dude was really awesome actually, just at work), and then they leave it on your car. It's just like a parking ticket.

If you pay the ticket within 5 days (or 7?), then the ticket cost drops to $100.

In short, there is essentially zero negative impact from the plate-checkers on traffic.
    sproing!

What will be interesting to see is if people without reservations are willing to pay the ticket to ski on a powder day, leaving folks without reservations without a spot.

As far as the bear--obviously the skier almost ran into the bear, not visa versa. The bear was clearly ahead and had the ROW. But that's what I would expect from SLT skers.

Ah. Make sure you enter your plate number correctly! I fd that up once and the town didn't care because at that point it was admin costs that they weren't eating from my stoner moment.

Are the parking reservations already out of stock for the weekend at OV?

Well, we definitely had fun at Rose yesterday.
To your point, it was nicer skiing the softer natural on Aida's (even tho plenty skied up, and with thin coverage), than the *firm* almost everywhere else.
Wondering if worth the drive out to KW tomorrow? They look to have many ungroomed runs.
