456F seems like a very hot charge temp. I never went anywhere near that on the quest.
I just finished seasoning. I managed one 500g decaf roast today. I followed along with an Evan Gilman profile (Royal coffee). 220c/428f charge, 9:37 fcs 195c/383f, 12:11 drop 204c/399f. +10c 20%dtr. Should make banging affogatos.
I think I’ll try a lower charge temp and more airflow for a couple natural coffees tomorrow, but it’s cool to be able to browse other roasts in roastworld and see how pros are roasting the same beans.
I’m really impressed with the cooling fan. It was in the upper 90s today roasting outside and it brought the 230c seasoning roasts down to hand temps in a minute or less.
Next steps are to setup some good ventilation so I can get inside in climate controlled space.
I’ll have to drop it down and try that out. I’ve been meaning to for a while but always get started and then you can’t change it. I remember reading that or seeing a video where it was recommended but haven’t changed it in a while.

I saw they have Blue Mountain from Jamaica. One of the sons of the owners started a Caribbean Cafe in Boulder back in the 90’s around the corner from my place so I was in his shop all the time and he would get crazy excited when roasting for his shop. Years later he open a place in Nederland and looks like he is still at it.

I usually buy from Sweet Maria’s since they have some great deals. Picked up 20 pounds of Ethiopian recently and plan to try out a few different ways of roasting with the Behmor’s preset heat system.

Coffee people -
My basic bitch electric grinder broke and I'm glad. Please recommend a replacement. No espresso, just pour-over and aeropress here.
Budget: $250
Must have: good burr
Nice-to-Haves: low noise, low mess
thanks
I'm not tgapp but my Barzata Encore has been treating me well. It doesn't have a run timer but Ive gotten used to counting out a run time.
Our use is cold brew and Aeropress. It's fairly noisy and light to moderate mess.
Encore is solid. But Norse - for $250 I would look at either a gen1 Fellow ode or a gen2 for $100 more:

the gen1 at $200 is an insane deal

Yea and you can always upgrade to betterburrs down the road. I’ve had the Gen 1 for almost 2 years with the burr upgrade and it’s been great.

Cool thanks. Almost bought the Ode before posting. Common complaint is the mess factor... you guys find this, too? Or are reviews unreasonable?
I don’t find it messy. I mean grinding coffee is messy but I don’t think it is at all excessive.

Check out the Ariete, it is grounded to produce less static energy like many rotating devices. Had one for about 4 years now. Still going strong.

Ode Gen2 isn’t messy at all. The anti static device works really well

Recs on pour over setup? Single serve is fine. Been doing a little research but figured this group would have some thoughts .
I’ve been using a ceramic one that I just broke.
Also may pull the French press back out.
Buy a plastic V60. It wont suck heat out of the water (like ceramic, glass, and metal will), and is unbreakable so youll take it camping, to the ski hill, etc... also its the cheapest.
I use a v60 the large majority of the time, and only pull out the big Chemex on weekends when im making +20oz of coffee for the wife and I.
V60 is definitely the answer. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of pouring boiling water over plastic so I have the stainless steel V60. Also unbreakable, and the coffee stays more than hot enough.
