-28f when fed I the horses this AM. Anecdotal, but the head checker at Broulims in Driggs said -52 on the Teton River where it closes Hwy 33.
I rarely take off gloves to pull out the phone, but here's a couple of clips from the past three days of skiing.

yikes could have been a lot worse.
"At 3 p.m. on Saturday, two skiers from Utah took the tram to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain with the plan of exiting into the backcountry to ski Rock Springs. Instead, they dropped into the top of Granite Canyon. "
" The skier confirmed that they did not have avalanche safety equipment. "
If you don't know....

Sounds like Taylor slid, hopefully no one got caught.

Not him this time. If you look at the pics from the sar helicopter, you can see the trigger spot, which was from someone skiing down the south ridge. Eerily reminiscent though https://www.tetonat.com/2012/01/24/t...ain-avalanche/

During the Monday interview, the skier expressed his remorse, apologized, and expressed gratitude for the rescue teams.
“It really comes down to being overconfident in knowing the terrain, overconfidence in backcountry knowledge, and not having a plan,” he said.
Overconfident in knowing the terrain? Wtf??
Drop into granite by accident? Hike back up to the saddle.
Ok.
And not smart enough to hike back up to the upper gate?
Just Call SAR and waste their time?
Plus overestimating their backcountry knowledge? With no gear? Yeah.
Deja vue from a few years ago when two dudes dropped into granite and tried to build a snow cave. I felt bad for the rescue team that tried to go out from Corbett cabin the next morning.
Shit happens. Injuries or gear failure. But don’t be an idiot.
Really pleasant skiing today — sub-zero in the sunshine near sunset. Strikingly blue sky. These are the actual colors (desaturated a bit, if you can believe!):
I snapped these pics of the slide this afternoon. Heli for scale:
Looks like the (lucky) snow-rider triggered it from looker's left/lower down the ridge, and it propagated down to the cliffs and back up the ridge. Definitely not the terrain you'd want to be strained through.
And some beautiful alpenglow:

Boy do I miss those days in the Tetons!
I've had some decently deep days here in CO this season, but nothing like the days submarining at the Vil, TP and the Ghee late 90's - late 2000's!

Some amazing pics, look like some epic conditions and I am happy a few photogs stopped long enough for a snap. Keep it coming for those of us back living at the beach.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot
Yeah, overconfident was a strange wording for that. I get it but wrong word. Overestimating knowledge? Yes, definitely that.
Humans do a lot of dumb shit.
Over the years my thought and decision making process has changed drastically. Anything I see as possibly risky gets thrown out the window, especially as the day becomes late. I'm also very concerned how my decisions could affect others, partners, SARS etc. I guess this is a good part of getting old and maturing. It takes some of us a bit longer tho eh? I'm a slow learner I guess![]()

Aggressive in my own mind
Was a puffy-coat kinda day today. Amazing snow quality @ -1F. (Warmer than yesterday when I was out at -9F!)
Found out I'm losing my housing today (as of March 31st). If anyone knows of anything, or knows someone-who-knows-someone, I'd be appreciative as I see what, if any, options I have.
Need 2+ bedrooms as I have a teenage son, ideally with garage, on the Wyoming side of the Pass. My time may be up in the valley and time to mosey on down the highway!
fwiw, numerous people have made and will continue to make that mistake, including some knowledgeable folks in low viz. the rescued party was embarrassed and apologetic. They're also likely to lose some fingers and toes at a minimum, so there is that.Originally Posted by Core Shot

I was thinking that there should be some signage up top, with blinking red and yellow lights, that says ROCK SPRINGS IS THATAWAY, " with some arrows.

I'm confused. They dropped into Granite, climbed out and went across Rendezvous to Rock Springs? Or am I ass backwards on that?
