An artist of Drew Tabke’s stature can’t possibly be skiing on sh*tty skis, so given the opportunity I would gladly try out a pair.

    Praxis is legit

    On3p is legit.

    Marshall’s project is legit.

Most of them use other presses and layups until they get big enough.
The idea of garage or trailer made skis is laughable

Good shops can make any spec you design.

I just reread this thread and it is awesome. Hall of Fame material for sure. I’ll say this about RMU, they sure know how to get a rise out of people!

And after rereading some of the vitriol I’ve spewed on this thread, I’m thinking I should go have a drink at one RMU’s “concept location’ drinking establishments for a beverage.

^^ I saw that they popped one up in Truckee the last time I was walking around. Looks nice, I'll definitely have a beer there.

any design you are willing to pay for, so what is a good shop and is what you designed actualy any good ??

done right the maker has to make forms just for you which takes time & costs money

a local guy was making skis in his shop anybody ( ski journalists/ influencers/ film makers) who went thru was impressed there were no empty beer cans or pizza boxes no shit lying around no dope, you could eat off floors the place was not a fucking mess it was a small scale ski factory. He built the press he had computerized router with which he could tweek flex profiles, he had his shit togetehr, he didnt take short cuts he would talk for hours about how he was making his processes more like a real ski factory he made a very good product that didnt break and the people who bought them were happy

so why not just buy skis from a real ski factory was my take ?

I remember buddy saying there isnt a lot of money in making a ski, the skis I demoed were good good but those skis were 1150+ tax for one of his skis that he had already made the forms, whereas I was finding good skis often with bindings for half that price so it didnt make $$$$ sense cuz a better deal would always come by. I remember his saying there is not a lot of money in making a ski

I used to take thru the same visiting ski journalists who came to see the Hankin Evelyn project/ HBM/ Shames thru so I heard the product spiel > 6 times

    You missed my point.
Point being any shop can cad.
And yes. Making molds ain’t cheap.

But major point is. It’s nice you have molds. If you can’t build a ski that doesn’t Delam and self destruct. Then you suck at ski building

FWIW, Guy in our crew bought a pair of Redsters last year. Bases were so convex the tuner (not a hack) had to grind down to the core on one ski to get it flat. He got them replaced under warranty.

OTOH I have two pair from ON3P (skinny wrens and goats) and two from praxis (BCs and GPOs). All have outstanding workmanship with high-quality components (esp edges and bases).

I’ve had skis I liked or disliked but I’ve only ever had one just beyond horrible and unskiable ski. It was a faction ski, can’t remember the model but it was beyond horrible despite the shape and flex seeming ideal. Praxis factory tune is a little too aggressive for me but I love my pow boards, protest and yetis. On3p makes the most bomber skis I’ve ever skied. Personally I’ve always liked 4frnt the most as they’ve always let their skiers design their skis, and devestators with raven and renegade is the perfect 3 ski quiver (not that I’d recommend only having 3 skis as I currently have over 20 mounted and in the rotation). Plenty of good Indy brands. The big brands have always been better at dialing in sidecut. Sterbenz said that for the original 4frnt ski he literally stole the side cut design of a Fischer ski and added twin tips. Lately I’ve been digging Salomons, maybe just because I can get them super cheap. But their designs have been pretty good. Even k2 seems like they’re making decent skis again. So many good skis out there, no reason to ski crap. RMUs I’ve seen all look subpar quality and design.

My problem with major ski companies is the lack of choice. I'm a full rocker guy and pickings are slim.
That's why I've become a big fan of 4FRNT as they have a big commitment to rocker. The Devi is my favorite all conditions inbounds ski and my Ravens completely rock in the BC.

One cool thing about the first run of this thread.
At one point, when you googled "Rocky Mountain Underground", this thread was the second thing listed.

If you’re looking for honest takes on gear and other ski related topics, this is a pretty good place to come. The main channels of the ski media really can’t be relied on for anything more than total B.S.

I have no dog in this fight but this thread is definitely amusing.

It's like the ski company version of the sarcastic remarks can get you banned from Neptune Mountaineering thread

The issue I have with all this RMU sucks talk is that zero of the respindants have skied the product in a few years. What are the new skis like? Why does Abma ski on them? Did they move to a new factory and start doing QC. All these questions have not been answered. Maybe they ate shit and maybe not al I know is they were shitty in the past but so were all the non-big players (and some of them were too)

well sure but nobody has really said anything different after a personal experiance

Abma was up with the Salomon freeski crew and they all had matching Salomon gear (they were all cool) even matching boots then he switched to Black crow in 2016 and this year he switched to RMU so I'm betting he goes with the best deal

FTW, its a business and these guys will ski on what pays the best for the shoots and such. I owned 2 pairs of RMUs, the QC was decent (1st year runs from NS). The skis were OK if conditions were good but they tended to suffer if conditions were less good or chopped up.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

So these guys all fit the same salomon s/lab boots even the guy who mounted the extra buckle across his instep

5 years and not a peep from RMU and really the quality was the cause of the OP's complaint, but the meat of the matter is customer service. It seems to me this is a company that doesn't give AF. They burned the magazine that held the contest, and they burned the OP.

Why would anyone want to do business with them w the lack of ethics displayed? There are some prize won brand new RMU's on gear swap - would any sane person buy them after reading this thread?
