On the Sierra High Route? On if you can skin something. You seem to get out a lot. Can't you read a map?
There are no shortcuts in the backcountry. The world is as you experience it.

I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
A friend of mine just did some corn fun on South side of Lassen. Here's, uh, er, site won't let me post a link to video due to JONGage, but dial up youtube and search for "Backcountry snow conditions in Lassen MLK 2015" and you'll find it. Looks real decent, I may have to get up there soon.
Sunday. Got a hair up my arse and left Reno at 2am. Grazed a mule deer buck going 65 to keep me awake. Left Bunny flat a little after 6:30am. Made it to Thumb Rock around 12:15.
Skiers and boarders dropping in and making lots of noise and no tracks. Nothing above 12,200 softened due to it being consistently breezy but below that was amazing.
I wanted to drop this but the wind was blowing right up the face keeping it firm. If it was a calm day it would have been all time. If you stepped back 5 feet from the face it was warm and calm on the ridge:
Ran into a buddy of mine from Tahoe above Helen Lake on the way down and was shocked to see his set up. Dude is a ripping skier and apparently he likes to go light. His 3foot 8inchworms:
Surfs up!

Not a single air on that whole damn lip.
Get back up there young man!
Besides the comet that killed the dinosaurs nothing has destroyed a species faster than entitled white people.-ajp
I was part of the group on the upper mountain. Ice cubes frozen into a hard layer. Repeated pelting by rhime chunks. Scary skiing.
Thanks for posting, might be the best option for a decent backcountry adventure in the next month.
Donjoy to the World!
I wanna see some TR's from the backside.
Yeah, it's winter, but the trail heads are all open right now.
check it out
I'll be up there soon...
Jibmaster, do I read the map right, is brewer creek free of snow, so you can drive to the trailhead?
Yes.

Still recovering from two injuries + got a new job.
Otherwise, I would be up there, taking advantage of the midwinter backside availability.
I can't get up there soon enough!
Would like to see/hear of others who can take advantage of this window...
Did I see correctly more than 15" of water forecasted for shasta thru feb 9th?
Skied Lassen area yesterday 1/31/15, Mt Diller to be exact. Pretty fun given circumstances. South east and south west sides were decent, the ridge extending back down toward Lassen entrance from Diller was the best turns we found, that was about 3:30 after it baked in the sun most of the day.
Showing south west and east bowls of Mt Diller
Skiing South west bowl
Lassen's southern exposure from Diller
Like I told my last wife, I never drive faster than I can see, besides it's all in the reflexes.
Well I think shasta might be set for a while now. Must have gotten at least 6 feet out of this storm. If anyone has any pics would be great to see.
Who's gonna hit up the backside this next week/weekend?
The snow levels look perfect for the vehicle approach.
updated snow map: 2.16.15

Shasta was all time on Sat, Sunday was good too. That place got schralped.
Thanks for the intel.......
I am going for it with some buddies on the 28th.......for my 40th. A BIG backcountry day was my only wish......and given conditions in CA/NV, Shasta is definitely the call. Just hoping for clear sunny skies that day.
Donjoy to the World!
There could be some precip.

Not that should stop you. Plenty of avy sheltered trees to ski...
I'm gonna try and sneak in a Feb. trip just before that storm.
Did you guy summit, or just make turns down lower.
Yeah, have been watching that weather....but thanks for sharing. That could definitely screw up my plans.....colder and bit of snow after two weeks of warm would really ice things up.
Donjoy to the World!
Shasta was unreal yesterday, like in excellent.
Lots of Ice chunks flying around, so be careful.
I got hit by one and it wasn't pleasant at all.
We have snomo's so we skied I think about 30k of vert from 10k to the PL over and over again. Resort boots and no backpacks, it was too fun. We cut over skied Grey Butte too. Grey Butte is pretty dope, If i was doing a short tour, I would do Grey Butte. We also looked at Shastina from Weed and it looked steep and fun.
If we are up that weekend I would be more than happy to treat you to some sled laps for your 40th.
