No i didn't find that to be the case. I bought them new in 2004 and retired them to BC only 2 years ago when my S912's broke, then replaced by mojo's. I got a few friends that are still skiing the first gen PR's hard 20+ days a year as their everday ski.

Hum, I was trying to think back on all the skis Ive been on, a real stand out Slalom Ski from the past? Cross Ski? Real old long skinny skis?

There just does not seem to be anything special out there that you would want to ski for anything more than Nostalgia?

But over the past 7 years or so some skis just outshine anything that has ever been made.

I still just love my 194 Race Room Legend Pro Rider. That ski was designed as a 194. I have had 186 and 194 the 194 is on another planet compared to just about anything else I have been on. I have been on a bunch of skis that are similar to the Legend Pro but none are its equal, even today

I was ripping through some refrozen corn in the woods on them last weekend on them thinking man, I can't think of another ski I could do this on and have fun right now. 2 layers of metal goodness.

Kneissl Tanker? Haven't skied them myself but a shop-owner friend of mine is buying up all the pairs he can get his dirty hands on.

Another vote for the 190 dayglosivs, but also a vote for the blizzard titan nines. Carves ice while maintaing a decent amount of float in pow - proper quiver of one ski for the euros.

any loves for karmas? I've had two pairs, in two different sizes in two different vintages, I currently ski the 185 originals, and had a pair of the 177 of the final production year, to me its the perfect early/ late season / steep twin... mid stiff, nice side cut for quick turns, fairly durable, i could run steeps and bumps all day on them.

... if i could find a shorter pair around, and i had the money , i'd throw some dynafits on there and go bag some peaks. alas, i'm both broke and lazy.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

Kneissl Tankers should definitely be added. Excellent allround skis for Europe.

I recently sold a pair of the black/red vintage karmas in 177 and agree they are a classic all-mountain twin. I skied the shit out of them back in the day and they made a great one-ski quiver for resort days. Since almost all of my skiing now is in the backcountry they hadn't been used in a few years. I considered mounting dynafits and using them as an early season rock ski, but ultimately decided they were too heavy and that I have other skis more suited to that purpose. An older all-mountain resort ski worth owning, yes; a light-weight peak bagging stick, no.

Sheeeeeeeet. I thought you meant "OLD" equipment, not merely 'older'. I don't really put Karmas in the "Old" category. Good sticks, though. What I mean by "old" are back when "karma" was some trippy metaphysical thing...not something you slide on. And "twin-tip"???...only twin-tips were boards....or maybe someone's bright idea of a new type of Q-tip or some shit.

But since I'm writing here...I'll throw in my favorite non-backcountry, all-mountain, actually "OLD" ski:

195cm K2 KVC ......the ones with the grey and pink top graphics and pink bottom graphics. Those things were sweet!!! Fairly light for their day...quick turning, and stuck on their edges like rails. As a matter o' fact, I liked them so much I kept them....they're still ready to go now with my old race Markers on them.

Definitely PRE "shaped" ski, but sweet nonetheless.

EDIT: I see there is quite a bit of stoke for various Volkl "dayglo-Splosivs". I've skied on a few different of those bright yellow/green Explosivs and Renntigers...and while they were EXCEEDINGLY well made (except for their sometimes delaminating topsheets [this was before the full-caps])...I just don't think they had the POP of my KVCs of the same vintage. The big old Volkl P9, though....they truly deserved some HIGH_SPEED stoke....and they got it! Still, I loved the color of the "day-glo-Splosivs" !!!!!
