Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

I don't know Jackson, but was the old gondola not in avy danger of some kind. Did they have other options on where to put the building that were way better? Surely they had a good reason to put it there??? Everyone acts like this is a monumental failure, but the building survived, they mitigated the danger above without death in what everyone says is a scary snow pack. They protected the lift, big kuddos. You can't control every acre. I'm glad they don't try. Commonsense should trump a rope. Ropes suck.
So, Glory went large, and there's approx. 60 ft. of snow on the road about 70 yards wide. If you need to get over the pass, "Don't frown, drive around". It's going to be late tonight or tomorrow morning before it all gets cleared.
I was thinking the same thing. Just pure speculation here, but that's a fairly beafy building, maybe they put it there, with the gondola on the other side, to protect the upper terminal of the gondola. It sucks that the avy hit the building, but it could have been really ugly if that slide came down and took out the top of the gondola during the morning ski patrol and staff uploading. Just remember,
I would guess that they did some major risk assessment before they build that place and put in the new gondola and maybe they figured that set up was the best solution to a tough problem. I know that slide path has ripped big before, but with modern avy control is that considered to be is a 1 in 10 year event? 1 in 100 year?
Regardless, it's a blessing that no one was injured or killed. The Jackson Hole Ski Patrol is one of the best in the country and I hope they keep up the good work. This one incident will not stop me from skiing Jackson whenever I get a chance.
Yeah just heard on the radio from the dude that was chucking bombs. "Don't even bother waiting it out to get over the pass, we are trying to get a few bulldozers up here to get it cleared".
Ripped right under the cliff skiers right, must be a big crown since I saw it from the red light by Albertsons.
Jackson to Victor = 22 miles...
Jackson to Victor via Alpine = 84 miles...
That has gotta suck....

.....go out and make this season the best season of your life. Ski that line, take that trip, slide that rail, make that leap, live for the moment, and make memories with friends that’ll last a lifetime, because as a great man once said, “If you don’t do it this year, you’ll be one year older when you do.”

looks like they took the webcams out on Teton Pass
"Slid into the cave where Rocky was waiting with the bong and the snowlerblades"
jhunderground.com now has some aerial pics of the headwall slide.

Gondi is running.
wow- good aerial shots. hard to see the fractures but it's interesting to see just how the headwall does funnel snow right onto couloir.

Do I see a pretty big crown above the expert chutes in little bigs pic?
It might be worth noting here that in this case and the accident in Fernie that killed 8 snowmobilers, it was the 2nd slide that had the most impact.
