I hope they still call lookers left buttress line into Laramie

    GNARLS BARKLEY

    that always made me chuckle.

That red line in goldminer is spicy.
My usual is the the top half, then back skiers left. That lower rock band is full of gold!
Been far skiers right of that many times in a good year.
Gold miners is pretty much filled in. Sweetest run on the mountain in a corn cycle.

Okay a little bragging (and sharing) I ticked off a personal milestone of sorts this week...currently at 101 Granite laps for the season and still counting. For sure it was the massive Lift lines that pushed me out there almost every day in Feb. but really I have no regrets other than my aching feet/knees from the constant abuse of hike (F.U. White Spider) and sidestep. Things were pretty busy in my head as I climbed up the headwall for #100 Monday during the storm...looking back at all the great skiing I had out there this year and the choices you need to make to not screw it up.. I have to say I can't really remember a bad lap in the bunch...some that were pretty spicy and some that were simply navigations but all memorable. Don't imagine I'll ever hit those numbers again but certainly the year that Covid brought will be remembered for a deluge of Granites.

    Number 100 was pretty good.

FYI, Alta 0 does open. I was lucky enough to ski it legally in 2011, and a few times this year when it opened for a few days in february. After a decade of skiing the steeps, I was still surprised how much of a line it is. Being on display makes it intimidating, but perhaps due to the makeup of crowds this year no one on the chair seemed to think anything of it.

That has to be one for the record books.
Right up there with the Corbett’s east ridge chair, or the pepi Steigler tram lap records!

Is your right thigh larger now? Lol.

How many easy up air force chute vs head wall hiking white spiders? Not that the exit is any different.

Estimated numbers: One... Surgically repaired right knee last summer (cartilage trim)...it's now the same size as the left.
Spiders and Headwalls 20-25 (about 50-50), AV/poop chute varieties 15-20, the Balance off of Teton. Different partners ...13-15
Caught in slides 0, New routes/lines 20-25 , Max laps in a day 7 = 8:30 start: six Tetons and one AV, Happiness 100%

And yes B Bear my intro to the Spider ( "I'll never do that" ) was last year with you, Skibrd and your hub...at times this year it was the only way to get to meaningful terrain and good snow...so it happened more than I wanted it to. Worth it every time.

wstdeep - golf clap from afar. i don't know what's more impressive 7 laps in a day or the 100! GC (the darkside) is such kick ass and sometimes scary terrain. another reason to love your home.

Most folks in this life would be stoked to ski 100 days in a season. To roll 100 Darksides is an impressive feat and an incredibly finite group of locals.
    Well done, Ripper.

    Marky Mark A. skied 100 corbet's in 06-07.
Phil skied 1000 trams a few years back.
Wstdeep skis 100 GC's in covid year.

    JH Benchmarks right there.

-I made turns and rode a gondy with a couple that coulda been you two, they were lapping dillydally alley with lev on the next lap. I was with Uglymoney and his 2 ladies in front at the sweetwater midload.
I was thinking of that song when I wrote it. I haven't bought a soda at the Village for a long time. Do they still sell Pepsi?

And no, it wasn't us. We rode the gondy twice with Lever last week, but otherwise we haven't shared a gondy with anyone this season. We've hardly ridden it. Can't tolerate the line.

    What was your best one?

Found some steep, untracked, soft snow today.

    [QUOTE=upallnight;6275344]What was your best one?

    The next one !!!!!

With the eternal optimism of a fat Lab that sits table-side waiting for a scrap to be thrown his way I eagerly await the next lap. I truly love the ever-changing puzzle of figuring out what is safe, what isn't and where the best snow lies waiting. The days with a fresh deposit and the knowledge that builds on multiple laps and then multiple days is just so intoxicating...being in the flow.

UAN you obviously share that same feeling...I think all of us here do on our own level whether your inside the gates, outside them, or truly "way back out there" as you are. The feeling is the same and the level of each individuals stimulation varies with experience, skill and risk tolerance. It's what we seek and we all get it in different levels based on our experience/experiences.

That said my most stimulating lap was probably a solo upper Mile-long , skiers far left, a climb/ rock scramble over/across the ridge then one of the more visually appealing lines out there...pretty steep as well. Opened it this and last year...I have rarely seen a track besides the ones we put in. It always feels pretty exposed and you can't screw up on the rocks for sure. Others: I took advantage of the stability the past few weeks to learn some of NW passage, again super stimulating and so complex. There are so many ways that place can wreck your day and so many of them are not obvious and can hurt you from a long ways away. Example: so many car sized cornices over head that you may not even notice as you concentrate on navigation. They can fall directly on you, create a slide above you or dislodge well after you have passed and bowl you over in one of the pinch points and you'll have no where to go... anyways its an area that demands reams of respect. Honorable mention: Late Feb was just insane in the interior as I call it...all those pinchy little shots in the middle... to many to name. So really it was all tasty stuff, different flavors every day, just gorging on what the mountain was serving that lap/day/week. That and taking someone out that is lighter on experience to share/show them a great day never gets old.

Bar none the coolest day was going down thru ABC area to view the MT Hunt avalanche debris the day after it happened. We spent the good part of an hour in the debris and it was so humbling/stunning to see the damage and the reality of what the consequences of being in that area when it had come down. A great reminder that what may kill you can come from a long ways away and you'll have nothing to do with it happening. The only way to avoid being killed that day was simply to not be there...(the lesson).

Was back at it today, the highest stuff had damn respectable snow giving way to cowboy powder lower down, super fast sluff and a really fast track out !

Thanks for the props guys, it didn't really become a "thing" to hit triple digits till late in Feb when it became obvious I could get there. Happy to say I just skied it for what it was every day, just trying to find the best snow available and didn't hit mini laps (AV) to pad any numbers unless they were the best thing going...which at times they were.

No goals for the rest of the year but I'm curious how many more good laps the ole girl will give me !

Was literally just talking about the gunsight notch the touring today. That line can get pretty scratchy and IS really steep!!

Nice! I very much remember my first time navigating the NW passage (solo)... Had a rope & also was prepared to climb out, just in case....

I have a belief that even if people know the risk, they believe it won't apply to them. There are always going to be people who "go" (some go FOR the risk), so I think the humbling moments don't change behavior in any large degree.... until/unless it hits REALLY close to home (friend dies & you are there, you are personally caught and buried, etc.).

Human nature is to be aware of the odds yet still try anyway. The same optimism that makes us good entrepreneurs ("I can be successful with my restaurant in this location even when 5 have failed before!") makes us think the odds don't apply to us when doing low-probability-but-high-risk activities, unless one really dials down terrain to the point where it isn't the kind of terrain we like to ski.

The thing no one talks about is how little we all *really* know (even the gurus) and just how much luck can be involved. We never know how close we were to triggering a slide (sometimes it can be mere feet from a shallow spot), and thus we get feedback as if we did the right thing even though we ate the cheese off the trap.

    My $0.02.

The Ghee was so good today. It was very much a sleeper pow day. I got up for about an hour between meetings and cranked out 6 laps.

I skied Das and then lapped the medicines. Was still finding untracked snow and face shots at 3:00. I didn't want to leave.

I have a rare 3 hour morning opening between meetings tomorrow AM. I'll be up there starting at 9:30 or so.

Some Vaccine stoke. Hats off to the Teton County Health Department and all the volunteers for doing an amazing job getting these shots out. Got my shot the other day at the future Target location and I was absolutely amazed at how dialed in they had the process from the parking, to check in, through getting the jab , 20 mins total including the 15 min post shot wait. I think I read that they are looking to do 1000 tomorrow and Monday, way to go everyone, much appreciated.

More on the vaccine front, I signed up at evanston walmart (am in Ogden right now) using the walmart.com/covidvaccine link, checked one of the boxes (technically I don't qualify), got my first moderna yesterday and am scheduled for second shot in four weeks. No questions but had to sign a form and check a box. in my case finance. Had to give my WY drivers license number because I didn't have my prescription card but had I brought it, not sure they cared what state I was from. Tons of open slots, don't think I deprived anyone

Its so weird sometimes. I have the one coworker at work who keeps implying I'm some horrible liar for getting a shot in Idaho, when they were literally roaming the hallways asking if people wanted them. FKNA right I'm taking that offer and not thinking twice about it.

His argument is the Walmart online portal didn't list my exact job description, but it does list essential workers, which I qualify for. Like Walmart is apparently the final arbiter of vaccine qualifications anyways.

Like dude, quit playing the victim card here and just go sign up, the goal is to get shots in arms after all.
