Yeah, I don't think anyone expects LL to be Aspen, but most would just be happy with it just running as well as any of the other So. Am. resorts. Have you been Bob?

It really redefines shitshow. I love the place and the country having lived in BA for a summer and Chile for almost a year, but pretty much vowed not to schlep from the US back to LL until they figure out something else for Marte. Its just not worth the continual frustration. F'n amazing mountain for sure, but when nothing runs it redefines the word frustrated.

You are spot on. Having been there in the mid to late 90's, Marte ran in the fowlest of weather. Now adays, that is not the case.
Last time i was there i vowed to never go back, just too many variable for them closing marte. It is just not worth it.

I spent a season working at a Heli Ski operation back in the late 90's. It helped me prepare for the on again/off again heroin buzz known as Marte laps.

Today Marte ran in higher winds than normal, in fact the chair even swung some. Since the competition was on Eduardos, they must have decided to run the chair instead of using the cat to get everyone to the top. It only confirms what Skideeppow said, the chair can operate way more than it does, should the powers that be choose to.

Anyways, it snowed about 1-2 inches and the off piste was closed again due to "firm conditions", even though it was not firm at all.

We utilized our excellent command of the Spanish language and got a 1 run hall pass.

Correct, they closed Marte at ~1:45, basically when the last comp people went to the top, though if anything the wind had died down. Lesson learned: just lap Co. San Martin 100% on foot or you can get stranded at the base of the marte chair with a sad face on.

Pucon got 50cms, but it was wind-hammered into crustulence when we arrived to an empty parking lot (at 10:00AM on a Saturday!). We bailed on tickets and skinned to 1700m before hanging it up. Visibility was zero, wind was sideways, and natural slides were evident. Going back up tomorrow for a second effort in (hopefully) better conditions.

EDIT: This was meant to be in the SA 2010 thread, but I was drunk.

2 meters at elevation in Bariloche over the last 2 days. Over 3 meters for the last week. But Lenas isn't seeing those numbers.

Sunday update. The competition is over, the off piste is back open and 1 inch at the base skied like 2-6 on the upper mountain.

    Lenas yesterday

I made a short video from Las Lenas yesterday.
Forecast looks good, it's full white out conditions today though.
Not much wind, cold temps and most of the Gringos hot tinned to Bariloche.
Create a disaster and then be the answer to its solution. Thats the way to control the ignorant masses.

Wow! glad to see the weather cooperate for you at Las Lenas! was going to be there this week but ran out of vacation days.....and given all the reports of sparse snow conditions, I was almost glad I didn;t make the trip this summer(did Bariloche and Valle Nevado the past 2 years). oh well, sucks for me....

if you see a bunch of Asians(there should be about 30-40 of them) from NYC called SkiKlub International, please send them a shout out from Fred.

Arrived Saturday to blowing wind and only pomas running.

    Sunday dawned bluebird...

Monday was cloudy with firmer conditions and some wind thrown in for good measure...

Tuesday and Wednesday were full on storm powder skiing...

Hopefully it will go bluebird before we leave on Saturday.
