Anything steep like Main Chute and it will rip right outta there on the first turn. Maybe.

Quick question. Are you guys just booting up baldy from wildcat, or are you following the skin track from wildcat up it?

When I went the other week, it looked like a skin track had been laid, but there was boot tracks in the skin track all of the way up. Seemed like the skin track was pretty steep too. I would be worried about skinning up it and loosing traction with those boot prints in it.

On tuesday we skinned up. But that day, the booter and the skin track were blown in. The snow was quite firm in places, and skinning sucked. The booting was even worse. Breakable wind crust.

Probably best to just boot up the couloir. It's firm and supportable.

Yeah, I know that Beaterd did that the other week and he said he was having issues kicking his boots in because it was so firm. I'm in soft snowboard boots. You think crampons would be a good idea if booting up it then? I don't know how much snow conditions have changed and if it has softened up with the weather.

An ice axe for self-arrest might not be a bad idea either if it's firm. Just sayin'.

BUT ODDS FOR A SIGNIFICANT AND MUCH NEEDED MOUNTAIN SNOW EVENT EARLY NEXT WEEK ARE NOT LOOKING NEARLY AS FAVORABLE AS THEY WERE EVEN 24 HOURS AGO.
    From the NWS tonight.

    wtf
. Showers are tracking across the area this morning but with the warm air in place...snow level will be 8500 to 9000 feet. Models backed way off on the storm for Monday night and Tuesday. Now looks cold but not very wet.

    and from the latest AFD:
    "DECENT LOW-
LEVEL COLD ADVECTION WILL BE ESTABLISHED OVER MUCH OF THE STATE BY
THE TIME THE MAIN TROUGH ARRIVES LATE TUESDAY. THE BIG CHANGE
MENTIONED ABOVE IS THAT THE CORE OF THE TROUGH...AND THE MID-LEVEL
COLD AIR ARE NOT HEADING STRAIGHT FOR NRN/CNTRL UTAH. THIS IF COMES
TO PASS WILL CREATE A MUCH MORE UNSTABLE AIRMASS...AND POSSIBLY
LEAD TO SIGNIFICANTLY GREATER AMOUNTS OF PRECIP."

All of the meteorological media sources were talking about this week being the week that old man winter came storming in on and now, with all of their hot air, they've warmed up the damned atmosphere and killed the storm.

    And for the jinx!

No, its real, and I'm pretty sure you just ruined the whole winter.

I have always wondered though, does buying fat skis and long avy probes constitute a jinx?

Perhaps these meteorologists are unfamiliar with the annual Bum Z Thanksgiving East Coast trip. See, 5 out of the last 6 years, (and actually, the 100" T-Day weekend storm the year before that, as I didn't move to SLC until after Thanksgiving) it has dumped more than forecast. I can't promise that it will dump next week, but I fly out on Tuesday and don't get back until Saturday night, so chances are good for a solid storm. If not, blame it on Bush and global warming.

I made it home without intentionally crashing my car at 80mph, but that definitely doesn't mean I'm not going to end my life in the next couple minutes.

Well this is just fucked up. The thermometer reads 67 degrees outside right now. Think I may go out on a motorcycle ride.
