Question Ski boot size vs shoe size

I see this all the time, people saying they wear size 10 in shoes and a size 26 in boots. How can that be? Are people wearing their shoes really large or their boots toe-bending small? My spread always seems to be less than what a lot of people post here. (9 or 9.5 in shoes, 27 or 27.5 in ski boots).

    Just wondering, that's all.
You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

11 to 28.0. That is comfortable boot fit, not a race/performance fit.

10 to 25 with an Atomic plug. I sometimes wish I could go with a 26 because it would make life so much easier. But, I have these skinny ass ankles and low volume feet overall. I need to either shim the tongue on a 26 or stretch the shit out of a 25 for length and width. I've tried both and prefer the latter.

11.5 or a 12 but I wear a 28. Most guys wear their shoes too big.

I'm a 9 street shoe and have been skiing a 26 for the past couple of years. Going down to a 25 this year for better performance. As stated above, most people wear shoes a bit bigger than true size for comfort. You can do the same in a ski boot, but performance will suffer....

Your toes should hit the end of the boot, and bend when standing straight up in a ski boot. When you weight your shins against the front of the boot, your toes should pull back and *just* come off the end of the boot.

    my shoes: 11
    my boots: 27.5

I think there are two things going on here. Firstly, most guys wear their shoes a little too big. Whatever. I don't need a "performance fit" in my shoes and prefer a little wiggle room. Secondly, most guys on this forum probably prefer a snug fit (compared to the more casual skier) on their alpine boots for better control.

9 street shoe (close to true size; 8.5 is probably perfect).

Have been skiing 27, but there's a little slop. Going to 26 this year - so far indications are that it'll be great for skiing, but hiking may be an issue.

Heat moldable liners really help, but the only thing that really works is trying on as many boots as you can.

measure your foot. mine is 27.5 cm long. thus, i wear a 27.5

my street shoe is a 10.5-11 which is pretty totally irrelevent, because you don't want your street shoe as tight as a ski boot. but i wore a 9.5 soccer cleat, which you did want as tight as a ski boot.

    oh, and if you were wondering: 27.5=9.5 because (27.5) -> 2 + 7 + .5 = 9.5

What you're mostly seeing is that US shoe sizing is crap, meaningless, half the time pulled out of a box labeller's ass after he picks his nose staring at three or four correspondence tables in a dimly lit Chinese or Italian warehouse. Because they don't use US-size lasts.

What you're also seeing is guesstimates or average impressions of any person's US shoe size, with shape a major factor. Sure they measure 8.5 on a Brannock device but I'll bet they also remember those medium-lasted dress shoes that had to be size 10 not to pinch across the forefoot.

Do you mean 27/27.5 being the two numbers?

If so, because they are actually the same boot and usually liner, a shim being placed in the 27 to take up a bit of room.

I'm a 13-14 depending on the brand of shoes, and a 30-30.5 depending on the boots. In Rossi boots I'm currently at a 30.

Size 10 shoes are a really nice tight fit for me. Size 10.5 hiking boots that fit good too. I use size 26.5 Technica Ski Boots.

Size 9 shoe. Was in a 26.5 Solly xwave but went to 25 Nordica Hot Rod and love the extra support. I won't go back. From what I have seen a lot of people go to big on boots because the feel better in the shop. Once the liners pack out a bit they end up having too much room
