After my first season in Aspen, we did a road trip in May of 1982. We took Windsurfers and rigid Mt. Bikes, to all the reservoirs, down the Colorado River.
It was the first year Lake Powell was full. Now it's 29%.
After leaving Lake Mead, we went through Kingman, on the way to Lake Havasu.
At the time, I thought I'd never want to go back.
But RA13 has changed my mind.
Brown pow freshies today

From a ride before the storms last weekend
Cool old growth manzanita up top
Wind up top was crazy, got blown off the trail many times
Dropped behind the ridge. No wind, but snow, downed trees and heavy brush made going just as slow
Fun chunky descent to end the ride

And Palm Canyon before the holidays. Perfect day out there

Solo dawn patrol on some spicy trails
Steep roll
Into a new spicy rocky chute
Couple up/over rock rolls and this slab wall ride from left to right, up and around the tree (looking at exit)

Stumbled onto a really great trail on Sunday. I was riding a trail system that I usually only ride with my son, as it has some flowier, easier stuff than our hometown system. I was somewhat regretting my decision when I stumbled on a "Wrongway, downhill only" sign on a trail the wasn't on Trailforks. I rode back and forth and couldn't find the connector, so ended up hiking it uphill ( I literally stopped maybe 30 yards from where I eventually found it connected). It turned out to be just a super well build trail. It had a great mix of flowy stuff - the bottom is basically a banked turn little jump trail- and tech-ish stuff - the top has a lot of tight switchbacks and little rock rolls across gullies. Just a really well built trail and I as grateful to stumble upon it.
South facing stuff is melted out here in town!!

We're a hair under normal precip for the date. This spot has fast-draining soil and is usually fine to ride after it rains. Nice winter option when I don't have the time for the ski commute.
A couple spots were puddly on this ride but nbd... then I fucked up and returned to the TH via a different trail that was the wrong call, haha. Should've judged by the tree cover... alders (swamp!), vs conifer in the drained soil.
There were a dozen low spots that were knee-deep fuckin water, no way around. Rode through the first one without knowing the depth and got pissed, and then charged into the second one all hot and committed to just finish the shit and not turn around. Shoes going SPOOSH SPLOOSH SPLOOSH SPLOOSH pedaling through the cold water. Was laughing like a maniac by the last of em... no wonder the trail guys are about to decommission this one. Sorry, bike.
The weather finally co-operated and I was able to open up some of my fat bike trails.
