Backup Exec 11 RANT.

Ok so we get Backup Exec which is around $1000 sort of a lot. Anyway you get email with a 4 Serial numbers well only two but there are 4 because it lists 2 products for every serial number (what ever that means). So you go to there web site and create a account. Then you log in to the site with the newly created account info. Next you log in your serial numbers, but only one at a time because they have a note that if you try and do more than one at a time bad things might happen (then fix it or get rid of the option). So for every serial number you enter in you go through a process of checks, and you get an email for every serial number. Now you open the email and you now have a license key well 2 for every serial number so I have a total of 4. Then you go back to the web site enter in your serial number and goto the download page. Now this is fucked the first download page has 8 files to download individually each taking an average of 2 hours. So I called customer support to ask if a better way is available I get a no. I also find out that I may have to call back when I get everything downloaded so that they can tell me what order to open all 16 downloads in. This is going to take 2 days.

It looks like installing Server 2003 and Exchange 2007 was the easy part.

I have been less than impressed with BE 11d. Also, the VCB integration for VMware is utterly worthless. According to Symantec, if you want a backup solution for VMware you should use NetBackup...
