    Salomon Falcon 10 sizing

Nice review in the forums, but was hoping someone had extra info on sizing. Salomon's sizing chart has a 29.5 approximating a US12, does that sound accurate? Would you describe them as mid-volume or low-volume?

and yes, I'm a jong for not seeing a boot fitter.

    I'm in a 27 falcon and I wear between a 10 and a 11. I would say a 28 is going to be the proper shell size for a 12.

Not sure what to compare them to in athletic shoes, but I tried on a pair at Ski Rex, and they felt a little more snug than the Gun. They fit my feet extremely well right out of the box (size 25.5, and I belieeeeeve Boulder Running Co sized me at a 10 or 10.5), except for two pressure points on my anterior distal ankle (where the sides of the tongue pinched at the articulation). I'd give them a low-to-medium volume fit. Not as snug initially as my 26.0 Solly plug boots were, but not that far from it either.

My foot is very low volume in the achilles; for width: about medium volume through the ankle, low-to-medium volume in my forefoot/arch, medium-to-high volume in the metatarsal-phalangeal area, and my toes are pretty narrow. My foot overall isn't very tall, so lowish volume in that respect.

That may be more info than you're looking for, but I hope that helps. Keep in mind I was freeskiing in plug boots all last year, so my idea of a "good fit" (just at or a little less than a 1-finger shell fit) may be different from yours.

I have the 27.5 and usually wear a 10.5 or 11 shoe. I have pretty bad pronation and a high instep with a medium width foot. I have cork footbeds that take up too much room (replacing them first thing this season), and am still working out the hot spots (2 small toes and the bone on top of my instep) after about 30 days...

    Overall I love the boots!

    (but find yourself a fitter!)

Same boat here, where 11 shoe and have 27 (315bs) falcon 10's. I would put them in the low-mid volume. Narrower heel with a relatively wider toe box. I really like mine. I think salomon bills them as a low volume option, short of a plug boot. The xwave series is the mid-high option.

    thanks for the input

I'm suprised they seem to run so much bigger than Solly's chart suggests, but that's a lot of testimonials. I've never worn anything smaller than a 29, but sounds like the 28 shell could be a better choice. I'm also considering the X-Wave 10 for some extra comfort, but what I hear about the lockdown fit of the Falcon is very tempting.

remove the liner, have your toes touching the front of the shell lightly
you should have 5-15mm behind your heel and the shell

if the store didn't shell fit you walk away. not to be trusted AT ALL.

28 or 27 is the right shell size

I tried on the Gun, which is the same shell shape as the Falcon. It is definitely a tighter fit than the Impact shell and it held my ankle in place as well.

From what I have seen, they are low volume, but run big.

What I mean, is that they are narrow, but tend to be longer than counterparts in the same size.

    So size down.

    Small

Man you guys all use small sizes.

I'm a 10 in sneekers and when I went to a bootfitter in Chamonix he measured my feet to 27.1 and 27.2 cm. He recomended a Falcon 10 in 27. I asked him if I should rather go 26.5 since it's a different shell but he said no.

I saw that Deep Days, who's a 10, uses 25.5. That's gotta hurt. And a lot of the rest of you are 10.5-11 and use 27.

I'm also going to get a pair of Falcon 10 or Falcon Gun but now I'm starting to worry about the sizing.

BTW is Falcon 10 and Falcon Gun the same fit?

check the shell fit again 5mm to 15mm. much easier to make a small boot bigger, then a big boot smaller.

all falcons are the same shell.

    My recent Falcon 10 experience:

Sum. IMO...low to med volume, longer form for narrow foot med to low instep. Maps accurate to sizing charts.

Tried a Falcon 10 28.5 [11-11.5 shoe size, 114.4mm wide foot and high instep] last week. I believe the last is a 98 with these boots, close fitted liner with narrow sensitive plastic and great feel with a 110 Salomon flex index. Unfortunately, after 30min problem is foot width… pain and numbness running from little toe to just before heel on both outside feet. With thin ski sock, foot contacts sides of shell with heel in good position. While the buckles hinge at top foot, barely able to latch above instep, both feet.

Next tested the Salomon Impact 10 and Impact Pro, 110 and 120 respective flex index. Both share shell spine to heel locking internal but at a 100mm last. First impression with shell fit using a 28.5 was foot relaxed but fitted firm. With liner out, sock just brushing sides with heel maybe at two fingers [more of that in a moment]. Foot and liner back in shell, top buckles latched with plenty of plus or minus movement [I have never experience that in a boot with my high instep]. No numbness or pain after 30 min. Great! However, after a bit of both ankle and knee forward flexing felt that the heel was not as locked tight as I would like. Then I tried the 28. It felt a slightly better at the heel. Did not think that possible as I’m unsure if Salomon does that with the liner [they do imprint a 28 v. 28.5 on backside of liner] or with a taller foot bed perhaps? Wondering what their heat molded liner will do for heel hold?

So; while still trying out ‘08 boots that are trickling into the shop [Bandits, Freerides, Agents…although lasts are 98mm with exception of Lange Freeride 100] and will work with my local boot boy wonder, I’m impressed with the out of box fit of the Impacts as I would rather not have to punch and stretch the shit out of the Falcon 10’s to get to the same initial fit as the Impacts. Ps., I don’t like the added screwed on crap at the sole toe and heel. Just leave it solid plastic. I'll put a rubber on for safe walking.

Go with the shell fit. Lots of guys like their street shoes bigger than others - don't trust what people say their size is.

Out of the box, it hurts a little, but gawddamn does it beat the shin bang that results from a sloppy boot. My bootfitter agreed with me the other day that a 26 X2 (my current boot, a plug boot) would have been good if I had just ground the shell less. Hard to undo that.

It may just be a matter of preference. Some people like a "kid fit" (4-finger) shell fit, some people like a race shell fit (no fingers... painful but responsive), and some people like it somewhere in between. So I guess I can't be as helpful as I'd hoped in comparing the shell size to a street shoe size, because even my street shoe fit is different from (probably tighter than) a lot of people's.
