With in-laws coming to town for Christmas my wife decided we needed a new table. I bought the legs from Etsy, the table extender kit from Rockler and glued up a bunch of construction lumber from Lowe's.

Actually a great litte gift for the lego lover. I couldnt find a mobile tray for my nephew so I built him this one for Xmas. We are all pretty sure of his proclivities, so I went pink.

I built this with my students (no, that's not me in the picture):



We made 80 small boards with words on the front that were cut out of cork with a laser cutter.



On the back of each board is an I2C EEPROM chip on which the same word is stored



The word boards attach to the big board with magnets. It's like large scale magnetic poetry. When you hit the big red button, it posts your poem to twitter.

I always mean to post projects in this thread, but then I get in here and see what others are doing and my work just seems like small potatoes. You guys are a talented bunch. But this I get to share. My wife and I closed on a house in MA the last week of October, and I've basically taken it to studs and redone it throughout. I've done the lion's share of work myself, save the bigger electrical and plumbing work, so I'm pretty proud with how it's turned out. Many sleepless nights, every day has been a 15+ hour day since we closed (I also work two jobs, and she's 7 months pregnant - we're not busy at all....), but its almost done. A couple more details and I will get to sleep again. The biggest change has been the kitchen. It's not in the same league as SWskier's creation, but I'm pretty happy with how its turning out.

When we bought the house, it looked like this:

Still need to paint the windows (that'll have to wait until spring) and put the dang covers back on the outlets, but I'm gonna have a damn beer first.

As horrid as the color scheme of the hallway flooring was, upon second glance, they did seem like hand-painted planks. You'd hate to find out that decades ago the family got a visit from Picasso and that floor was the result of a very drunk weekend with Picasso at the brush. It would be like "Damn...I just ripped out $150,000 worth of floor!!"

They were definitely hand painted, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out they were the result of a very drunk weekend; but I know who painted them, and Picasso she ain't.

prolly a good call getting rid of that painted floor...I almost fell over in my chair looking at it. I can't imagine after a few weeks post baby with lack of sleep trying to walk across it!

Kids love building stuff. This project required them to learn how to use a ton of tools, which was great. It's especially valuable for the kids who speak no English or are struggling badly with traditional academic tasks. Teenagers usually aren't all that tolerant of failure, and being successful in projects like this keeps them coming to school. We're finishing up building a fab lab in the school this spring which will let us take on more ambitious projects.

I can't wait to leave NYC, but I sure have a good job. I had the students build drum machines last year and use them to record songs. We'll be doing a project with home made sensors in a couple months after we read Macbeth and write comics about dictators from their native countries. I wonder if any of the Iraqi kids will write comics about George W. Bush?

I think it's 3/8" thick and I have several rolls 5' x 10' (or more?) . I'll take a look next time I'm at my shop, but I'd be happy to see it go to a good cause. Could do a Thunderbolt handoff?

Sounds like fun stuff and I bet the students probably bond over these projects, too.

Just gotta clean up the fretboard, glue on the nut, glue in the rosette, put on some french polish and will be pretty much all finished. Built from scratch, not a kit build here. This koa is going to pop like crazy when all is said and done! Will eventually put some pearl inlay on the headstock but I am impatient and want to start playing it

ripped apart an 3 AA battery LED string and made it run on 2x AAA, destroyed a flashlight, epoxied it into the pole, glued LED string to pole, green heat based shrink wrap and piece of leather....
