    WWMD?

So, I've been rebuilding a crotch-rocket style motorcycle. The last part I need is a plastic side tail fairing. Not expensive. Pay a guy on another message board $35 shipped via payapl for said part. Thing is probably only 2 feet long and weighs less than 5 lbs. It arrives at my door the other day, and he sends me this message.

Hey Blurred I sent out the fairing on friday last week I donno if u got it yet or not. I was going to message you earlier about this but the forum has been acting up and I have not been able to access my account for a while and it just seems to be co-operating now so. But we had a problem at the UPS Store they would not ship by weight they would only ship it by size. So it cost me alot more than I thought. I was wondering if you could give me 20$ extra dollars just to cover the cost of the shipping. I don't care about the fairing I wasn't using it anyway and it was just taking up room in my garage. Here's the receipt for proof: Shipping Info edited:just a invoice for the part price being $20.

So please let me know if its do able I would really appreciate it, because I am short on cash. Thanks
So, is it my fault that this guy sucks at shipping? Should I send him more money?
What's the right thing to do?

I've had that happen before, they call it "dimming" (dimensioning) an item. It's probably legit and there's no help for it.

Go to the ups store and see how much to ship it back to him. Offer half of that, and tell him he sucks at shipping.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

I'd probably send it to him....what goes around, comes around....karma....whatever. I'd feel better about it if I paid it.

But that's just me and I've been told before that I'm stupid.

Happened to me this spring on some MTB tires I bought on ebay. Guy thought he could fold 'em but couldn't so shipping cost him $20 more than he thought it would. I sent him $10 and felt like I still got a good deal. What come around goes around I guess.

Could you have gotten the fairing shipped any cheaper elsewhere? Probably not. Pay the dude, it's only $20 and at $55 he's still subsidizing the shipping cost. Having seen the shipping invoice I'd send him $25.

No it's your fault you're an ass. Guy's not even demanding, but asking nicely. He could of not shipped it in the first place when he found out the price. Lesson: Don't deal with douches like you.

Pay him. He's just a guy selling you something he has sitting around in his garage - probably the first and last fairing he'll ever ship. If it was some big fairing supply company I'd say screw-'em though. That's the cost of learning how to run a business.

    Blurred,

You have no legal obligation to reimburse him for shipping.

He dickbag, he could have walked out and down to the post office and had it shipped for like 10 dollars.

I'll probably just send him $20 anyway.

That's exactly right. If he really wanted the $$ he should have asked you for it before shipping, not after.

That said, I'd probably send him $10 (split the difference) if its from another board like TGR.

Wanna buy a mint 04 R6 (well, the parts that matter are mint - its a track bike with track bodywork and some scratches from my last crash).

How much work to get it back to street legal? How many times has it been laid down? Looking for a liter bike, but if the price is right.....

I used to sell a lot of stuff on Ebay. Once in a while the shipping cost more than I thought it would. I sucked it up. That's how it goes. You don't owe this guy anything.

BTW - who is this guy? Gonehuckin?

I went ahead and sent the guy $20, even though it really goes against my principle of not enabling stupid people.

Buttfuckin is sponsored by Tampax, and they pick up the s&h.

I had something similar happen to me a few months back when purchasing a backpackers guitar off of ebay. I just went ahead and sent them the twenty bucks. That makes me either a "Nice Guy" or a "Schmuck".....your call.

    I'm a sucker for karma.

Eh, i'm going to go with split the difference, it sucks, but he should have thought about it before he sent it. there are ways to look it up before you actually ship it. Then again i'm drunk, so ... take that for what its worth.
