    K2 One Luv

I know this is a skinny ski, and I should probably be asking this over at gapic, but I'm getting my girlfriend into skiing (she's been out once) so I need a ski on the skinny side, but enough to grow into. She's about 5'2" 125lbs. Not very strong, as she's been a girly girl her whole life, but that's turned around lately in her fascination with the outdoors. Can anyone with a smaller significant other or daughter tell me about the K2 One luv or the Volkl Attiva? I'm obviously really tempted to get her Queen Attivas and tell her to grow into them since they're on sale. Thanks

Have you considered buying her boots and then renting beginner demos for a while? Don't want to scare her off by getting something that she can't handle.

Just a thought, oh and I know dick all about womens skis.

Definitely a good point...it was kind of an afterthought, as there's really nowhere to try on boots this time of year.

Haha I know the feeling. I was planning my gear for next year and I fired off a half dozen emails to local shops, I got a bunch of auto responses that pretty much said "Fuck off, we don't work in the summer, wait till its colder than 33 degrees to buy ski gear".

get her a set of k2 miss d's in a 164 or 169. (or the pe for that matter)
my lady has those and loves them.

ive read the attivas are pretty floppy and really arent much to grow into.

other options are the volkl karma or head mojo90 or whatever heads female equiv is, the sweet thang or something?
also dynastar has a couple female specific planks that look nice. exclusive powder o rsomething?

The one luv's are a great ski. She'll love them. That whole k2 women's line is awesome. If you aren't doing a ton of powder skiing they will be the perfect ski for her as they perform well in all other conditions and turn very easily. Totally go for it.

^^^^What he said. The MissDemeanor would be a great choice, much better than any of the LUV skis IMO.

By the way, I'm a woman.

The One Luv is a great intro ski - very versatile and allows a learning curve. My wife demo'ed a few years back. She is an Advanced skier - comfortable all over Kirkwood, steeps, powder. Handles (real) bumps, but does not loves them.

She opted for the Burnin' Luv. The One Luv did not have the *pop* she was looking for. It was too easy to ski - she wanted a more demanding ride.

The One seemed great for some one who wanted a solid ski - but not always be on game. I hear the line has become more *user friendly* in recent years, but still solid.

The Dynastar Exlusive line is pretty good as well - as long as your not taking in to ice. Nordica had a great line last year.

A little width is okay, but if you go too wide, she will be a skid freak.

Boots first, then let her demo skis and let her figure out which one suits here style the best. You also say she has only been out once so let her learn with demos until she is good enough to make an informed decision about what she likes, but make sure her feet are comfy, especially if she is a girly girl. Sore feet will drive her to the lodge quicker than a bad pair of skis!

My all terrain ski is the rossi scratch sprayer. The boyfriends 14 yr old will be on it now. Good starter.

Quit right about the boots. My wife was fitted poorly by the shop tech. Boot was huge, when I took a look at it on day 10. Like 1.5 mondo too big. And it did not fit well with her foot shape.

I looked at the shell fit, cause she was complaining. She wanted to grind a section where a foot nub was growing. It got so bad she could not even ski in the boot (and she's pretty tough). The biggest problem was when she was aggressive, here foot would swim forward and back in the boot.

Went back to the shop and they took the boot back. We demo'ed a few pair of boots, and they hooked us up. They did a poor job fitting, but let her upgrade her boot with no charge. At least they stood by their guarantee.
