Okay genius - you know what I'm talking about. Technically I should have said "multiple aliases". But the slang here is that an alias is a regular poster who registers multiple times with different names. Most internet forums only let you register once. Here - I could register as 100 stupid aliases all at once. And obviously people do it all the time so they can make comments they wouldn't want people to know came from them.

And for the record, while it's obviously not on my birth certificate, there are plenty of people who see me skiing or biking and address me as altagirl. Lame? Sure. But at this point it's a nickname, for better or worse.

I agree with alta, when you are out, run into someone from the board then start talking, real names don't come up. What does come up is SNR ripped on B11 who in turn tore i can see for miles a .......Until you get to know a mag, you are going to refer to them by their screen name for the most part in my experience so it "becomes" part of them (IF it is not an alias....).

Woman murdered in Park County

A Denver woman was murdered Tuesday while surveying parts of the San Isabel National Forest, about 15 miles south of Fairplay.

Park County Sheriff Fred Wegener Wednesday identified the victim, Alyssa Herberton, 24, an employee of Colorado Geographic Survey.

An unidentified suspect in the murder is in custody and was arraigned on first-degree murder charges either late Wednesday or possibly today in Fairplay, Wegener said during a press conference in Bailey Wednesday.

Earlier Wednesday, Park County officers identified a "person of interest" for questioning and by late Wednesday afternoon he was considered a suspect in the murder.

Herberton and a co-worker were performing field survey work west of U.S. 285 about 2 miles north of the U.S. 24 junction in an area known as Pony Springs.

She was a student at University of Colorado-Denver and was working on a Colorado Geological Survey mapping project during the summer.

Herberton was mapping geological hazards including mud slides, faults and sink holes caused by dissolving underground salts, geological survey officials said.

She was working on a master's degree in environmental science and started work on the mapping project June 1.

Wegener said Herberton arrived at her vehicle and was waiting for the co-worker when she radioed for help. The co-worker arrived but couldn't find her. Herberton was reported missing about 1:35 p.m. and a search party began looking for her.

Park County Search and Rescue personnel located Herberton's body, Wegener said, about 11:38 p.m.

Wegener said the suspect, who was camping in the area, has a list of aliases and a long record making it difficult to positively identify him. He said there are a lot of unanswered questions.

"I don't know what to think right now," he said. "A young lady out there doing her job and all of a sudden she comes up missing. There are a lot of unanswered questions."

An autopsy will be conducted by the Jefferson County Coroner. The cause of death has not been determined. Wegener said a gun was found near the scene and authorities believe the suspect acted alone.

Wegener said anyone who might have any information should contact the Park County Sheriff's Office at (719) 836-2494.

Actually, I was just looking up the definition and "alias" primarily refers to a false name insinuating deception or a name "assumed temporarily".

I think even if your one intenet screen name is commonly referred to as an "alias" in general internet-speak, it loses those meanings in a community like this where so many of the long term posters/members know each other in person. Then it just becomes a nickname, not an alias.

The meanings of all these things are well understood. It is a failure of language and logic in their inability to convey things we all know.

Data to support these allegations is inappropriate and only serves to feed the trolls, or aliae. But if you can sniff tcp packets and take the time to get the router information, it all points back to the same thing.

Not just the "best", it is the ONLY way. Trolls want validation of thier existance, so denying them ANY response is the only thing that changes thier behaviour even for a short time. Once a troll gets any response from a group, they'll come back repeatedly even if only once a year.
