The OFFICIAL Thrift Store SCORE! Thread

    Criteria for posting:

    1. You got it at a thrift store or garage sale or anywhere where you happened to be and there happened to be some sweet skis (for whatever reason) and you took them home. Basically, a ski or sweet piece of gear you had no idea you would acquire that day. No ski swap, ebay or CL finds. While those are sweet, they are the kind of thing you are looking for. Admittedly, I alway look for skis at thrift stores, but I don't ever go there looking specifically for skis.
    2. Post a pic. I don't care if you're Hiruki Murakami, we don't want to hear about it soley.
    3. It has to be reasonably cheap. If you spend $200 on Pow Pluses from a thrift store, it may be a decent deal, but it's no SCORE! $25 would be more like it.
    4. Tongue in cheek posting are encouraged, although not necessary. A find may be sweet because of humor (neon pink fart bag), nostalgia (K2 Extremes), or history (Spademan bindings). A SCORE! posting on functional gear for cheap is welcome too.

    I'll start it off:

Today I was out in ghetto PDX (100ish and Powell) and stopped on a whim at Goodwill there to look for a bike for my GF (whose bike got stolen a few days ago). Walked in and immediatly saw the yellow tips of these beauties from across the store:

205 Rossi 7XK's. I wanted a pair of these SO bad when I was in Middle School. I used to stare at Powder Mags for hours and they were full of dudes like John Tremann and Trevor Peterson rocking these. I compromised a few years later and got some K2 GS Races. I wouldn't have bought them if not for these, however:

997 Equipes, 6-14 DIN, fucking mint. The skis are mint too. I'm guessing they've seen snow like twice. I've not seen this color on the 977 before. They almost match all the colors on the 7XKs. Almost like Rossi and Salomon were in cahoots. Weird. Notice the dust in the heel cups, otherwise shiny and like new. Package price: $7.99.

This is my first, and probably only, "official" thread. Humor me, please.

Back in the fall I found this split board for 20 bucks. Not being a snowboarder I offered it to a couple friends and they passed. So I sold it for $250.
    Sweet little return on profit.

SKIING called the 7xk the best ski ever built back then.
A Rossi rep offered me a WC model of those that was fat with sidecut back when that was the ski. $200 bucks.
I kick myself in the ass for not getting them.
Because that would have been a score.
Never seen a fat pair since.
    Tremann stix for sure.

Whoa, like Axiom fat? That would be a score, considering maggots have probably dug up almost every deep snow ski there ever was, but I've never see this ski you speak of.

Aside: HTF do you get near 10k posts? What's your daily average?

Barkin Basement, actually in the basement. I sold them on the board to Andy_B (I did it auction style so I let the market decide what they were worth cause I couldn't just give up mint Iggies without a little run but didn't want to gouge any mags either). $20 originally w/ brand new 912s and the skis maybe had a couple runs on them. The pic has my 916s on there-notice shitty Axe plates...I didn't want to add more holes and those came on the skis.

And the cou de gras-900s (9-16) orginally marked $5 but it was half off day so I spent $2.50 plus tax. Those are sitting on a shelf waiting for my Praxis in the fall. That happened this spring...and fuck you, I don't want to go take a pic right now.

picked up a pair of K2 axis something or other with a 77mm waist at the town dump with a pair of gold/black Rossi/Look axial 120/P12 mounted on them. They've been ground so many times some of the edge is showing though the base. But the bindings are in great shape. The'll make great rock skis and or spare pair of bindings.

My biggest score was a decent road bike for my wife, Schwinn Le Tour real clean and a perfect get around town bike. A neighbor on the expensive side of the street had set the bike out for Goodwill to take but they left it saying it wouldn't fit in the truck. I was talking to her and she said I could take it but it was broke. Well, the only thing broke was the back wheel had been moved a little. I re-set the wheel and filled the tires. Off my wife rode on what would become many trips around town.

No pics because the board is back east, but scored a 1964 Hobie 9'2" in reasonable condition (i.e. I was offered $700 in the water for it) for free. Owner told me you take it off my lawn and it's yours.

the skis where all too old to race on anymore ,

Deep snow ski? It was a world cup gs race ski.
One of the more recent SKI magazines has an excellent synopsis on the evolution of fat skis - and the industry's reluctance to get the hint.
The article talks about how those first fat race skis with 2-3 times the sidecut performed better and how Bode Miller swept the Junior Nationals on K2Fours. Interesting article.
It mentions how racers adjusted their form to take advantage of the sidecut and how skids went the way of laquer bases.

daily average? almost 2,000 days, 10K posts.
I have no idea how I got here.
    Answering questions, I assume.

Solly 3X Equipe or something like that....

With S997 Equipe 11-17's, skis were pretty much done (used and still use the bases for basewelds), but the binders are pretty mint. I hope Marshalolson received the springs.

Oh, and how much... 0 €, yep nothing... They were glad I took 'em, even offered some more skis as well... but didn't see the need.
