Wow - Adium keeps a file? I didn't know that. Definitely would like to disable that. Sorry I can't help.

In Trillian pull down the Trillian menu, go to Trillian Preferences, then click on Activity History...you can turn off logging there. It also gives you the path to the log location, in case you want to delete previous logs.
In Adium go to Preferences>Advanced>Message History. Settings are there.
From Adium's web site:
How do I disable message history? ¶
You can disable logging from the General pane of Adium's Preferences.

The latter part of that support site entry is actually out of date; message history is not stored separately as of Adium 1.0. I've updated the page to be fully accurate.
trillian log files are stored under... *:\Program Files\Trillian Pro\users\default\logs or if you are just running basic obviously the folder won't be trillian pro
Found both, thanks everyone.
