    WT Borrow: Metal Detector

So I still feel bad about my father-in-law losing his ski on bert a couple of weeks ago. I posted a thread about it, but it has snowed since then so my guess is that the ski is pretty well burried. So, I was sitting on the can the other day and it occured to me (many of my best ideas come from the growler) that since the ski is a Volant with the stainless topsheet I could probably use a metal detector to find it.

The big question: Is there a Denver area Mag out there who can lend me a metal detector for a day this weekend. I'd be glad to provide a sixer for the rental. Thanks in advance...
Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
    Cletus: Duly noted.

    Cruiser,

I really have no clue, but you might want to check how a standard metal detector will work detecting stainless. Stainless has weird properties and I think I remember from college like 10 years ago that metal detectors have a difficult time picking it up.

If the stainless doesn't work, I do think the edges contain enough metal to help. I helped one of my buddies find a ring that was lost during a drunken snowball fight and not realized until the next day. We rented the detector from a local hardware store and it was like 7 bones or something.

I lost a ski preseason in the mine dumps on Aspen Mountain one year. I went back with a metal detector and basically dug up 100 lbs. of cable, steel plates and other assorted pieces of 100 year old mining equipment.
I don't know how much mining has been done on Berthoud, but its something to think about.

1st day they opened the hill I took a couple of laps on the same line and found it.

if a metal detector can pick up a signal from a ring, there should be enough metal between the edges, bindings, internals and topsheet to find the ski. Since CO is such a large mining state, there should be a place where you can rent one for cheap. Good luck mang

My buddy has a metal detector and he's used it to recover a ski. I'm heading to LA tomorrow and I'll be back next Saturday . If you still need to use it next weekend let me know and I can arrange it. BTW, the metal detector and I are in Summit, but I'm at bert often so I could meet with it.

They make really big wide ones for covering a lot of ground, maybe you can rent one of those.
