Lots of room for fish, that I never catch or keep.
Beer is out. Too many fish cops, and not worth it. I drink when I get home.
I like living where the Ogdens are high enough so that I'm not everyone's worst problem.- YetiMan

I don't take much beer, maybe a six for a whole day and usually don't drink it all. If you do drink a lot you are not fishing anyway.
cooler?
i dunno, I generally travel pretty light when Im fishing streams
at most ill throw a granola bar, dried fruit, and a sandwhich in my vest\pack. somewhere. also bring the nalgene with water and some iodine if I need it.
salt water or fishing from a boat is a different story.
favorite fishing food ever
palomilla steak sandwhich on good freshly baked cuban bread.
-one of the few things i miss about Florida
Well, I leave my cooler in the truck and break for a lunch usually.
beer and more beer. the only thing that SHOULD be in a cooler.
that or dead body parts
Personally I like to put my beer, tethered of course, in the cool mountain streams. That way I can pretend like I am in the coors light commercial where I reach into the icy cold stream and pull out natures goodness (without the coors light, of course)
Beer and boats don't mix though.
Odin,
Good call on the beer and boats deal. As a US Coast Guard Boarding Officer I see too much of that going around. PLEASE help keep my job easy, I f***ing hate paperwork.
cooler contents:
ice. to stuff my salmon with.
usually a dead fish head.
some salmon guts.
etc.
I'm really happy I fish on western rivers where beer is allowed..or at least tolerated on a float boat.
As if you don't have enough paperwork between the assholes with no safety gear, assholes who can't fix anything on their boat, assholes who are just assholes, assholes stealing comm gear, did i mention assholes who are just assholes?
CGGWH: "State the name of your vessel"
Asshole: "Lost in the fog"
CGGWH: "Sir can you repeat that? Was that lost in the fog?"
Asshole: "Yes come help us, we're lost in the fog."
CGGWH: "Sir what was the last marker or land you saw?"
Asshole: "I saw a green bouy."
etc. etc. etc. etc.
The only thing worse than the feeling that you are going to die is the realization that you probably won't.
CGGWH: "Whats your heading?"
Asshole: "Well, me and jim were going out to fish"
CGGWH: "No, whats your current direction?"
Asshole: "Well, we were headed for the narrows, so north?"
CGGWH: "Sir do you have an emergency equipment on board?"
Asshole: "Jim's got a leatherman!."
Beer
1 case of saba
160 lbs of ice
Red bull
Donuts
Juice
PBJ's
Teri Beef/Katsu Bento
Beef Jerky
Water
1 dead aku
1 lemon
1 onion (vadalia if in season)
1 small baggie of italian bread crumbs
1 small baggie of crisco (the thick white crap)
3-4 packs of oatmeal
--all packed into a backpacker style pot with the lid cinched down along with my backpacker stove and fuel
Yes once in a great while I will cull a trout and eat it streamside as it is the best thing in the world to have while fishing, and the oatmeal is for when I am just hungry and dont want to kill a fish or cant catch a damn thing (also it takes up space and keeps the onion and lemon from getting beat up)
I hear ya' on that, however for my family & friends it's always been the rule that the driver stops at one beer and the others keep it under control - - - personal responsibility and common sense can in fact mix with alcohol. I've never run into the no beer laws in the states (never been out East either) but they're really strict about it in Ontario.
I just made pan-seared salmon fillets for supper. It was guuuuud.
