    Hello, from new guy

    Hi;

    I just found this forum after finding a thread here from doing a google search for Brennan's Wave. I had heard about it before, but I didn't know it had already been built. I decided to post here because this looks like a pretty active forum.

    I live in Boise and as you may know, Boise has a ww park proposal in the works. I'm not a kayaker, but I live near the area of the proposed park and simply want to see that currently undeveloped area.....uh, developed.

    However, it sure doesn't seem to be moving forward at all, which I find discouraging. Boise has the potential to create a spectacular ww park, with not only whitewater but flat water too, with the large ponds we have just to the west of downtown which also happen to be near the proposed whitewater features.

    I'd love to see more pics of Brennan's Wave.

    Here's a pic of one of Boise's ponds that will be part of the flatwater features of the whitewater park.

    The park is in the works, moving slowwwwwwllllllly though. It has been several months or maybe a year since I last looked into things. But I recall there were some PITA licensing issues dealing with water rights, moving some underwater rebar etc...probably if the effort had more funds things would go a bit faster. As it stands now, I think its the City that is funding/doing the work.

    Boise is fucking the pooch on this and has been for about 5 years now. Even Cascade, Idaho will have one before we do. I've spoken personally with the guy in charge and was not impressed to say the least. There have been funding shortages but if they would create a campaign for it, they would get the donations they need. And when I say campaign, I don't mean asking for handouts from paddlers...we know that won't get them too far. I mean do a small economic study of cities such as Reno, Golden, Missoula, etc and see what benefits have been seen in those communities. They may have that info but have not made it public past boating groups.

    Maybe things have changed in the last year though so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

    Oh, someguyfromboise, welcome. You've found a good place to waste a lot of your employer's time.

    Thanks for the pics, especially the added value pic, you guys rock, I knew this would be a good forum.

    BartT and Conundrum, hmm, you must be from Boise? Here's what I know. A non profit corporation was formed July 2006 called Friends of Parks and Recreation. They were/are/have hiring/hired a consultant Shaw Snow & Associates out of Portland, OR, to help do the fund raising. $50,000 has been collected, but that was prior to the formation of FP&R and I think was due to efforts of Idaho River Sports. Other than that, I haven't heard anything.

    I just don't get why the Mayor and City Council aren't more interested. Hold a bond election I say. And what's with this FP&R, why are they so quiet? Reno's water play park was constructed with funds from a State wide bond election. Perhaps the State of Idaho could get involved------yeah, when PIGS FLY.
