    What's in my pho?

I try not to put out the inane posts too much, but my lunch today freaked me out. I went to a pho restaurant and ordered what I thought was a beef soup with vermicelli noodles and some meat. What I got was soup with weird strips of fat ribboned mystery meat, slices of loaf that looked like tofu but tasted like turkey, and some pork hocks, plus the noodles. They wouldn't give me a fork to eat with, so I splashed that shit all over and barely feel like I ate anything. Lunch was fucked.

edit: there were blood cubes in the soup too, NASTY

I'm leaning toward tripe for the mystery meat.

    And Pepto for dessert.
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

    That sounds so nasty.

I had the most fabulous salad for lunch with beets, swiss cheese, fresh snap peas, hardboiled eggs and honey mustard dressing. mmmmmmm.

The fatty meat was probably brisket, in many pho restaraunts it comes listed as "fat" or "fatty". You can also order "lean". Tripe is fairly recognizable, but knuckle, tendon, tongue and other parts of animal may also be included.

When ordering, I go for fatty and lean, as that gives it the best flavor. I have learned to pass on the mystery parts.

mmmmmm....pho (pronounced fuh)....Vietnameese beef soup w/various meat choices. Stick w/ lean steak or flank, and it shouldn't be a problem.

Tendon, fatty brisket or flank and tripe can be kinda gnarly.

Never seen ham hocks or funky tofu/turkey in it.

Perhaps it was faux pho? No?
