20 minute strength training yesterday kicked my butt.
My thighs (which I thought were irons) are toasted.
Should put more time to do strength training now.

I remember a guy from NYC who ran We$tern $tates back in 1993. He trained by running stairs in skyscrapers. Up 20 or so floors, then back down. Repeat many times.

I do stairmaster as cross training few times a week.
20-40 minutes at level 6-7 is good enough to ware me out.

Speaking of skyscrapers and stair cases.
These are couple races I would like to participate one day.

Come to SoCal by Labor Day and do Mt. Baldy Run to the Top.

    I think that's what it's called.

I knew a lady in Houston who ran that race every year.
She would run full marathons as "long runs" and was able to finish 100 miles within 30 hours.

No, its about a 10K with 4000-5000 feet of climb to the summit of Mt. San Antonio (Baldy).

I just saw Mammoth has a 5K run in August I think. 3K of elevation gain.

I been trying to crush the vert this last month, training for 3 mtn races coming up in the fall. Started easy first 2 weeks with 6000 climb/15 mi/week then bumped up to 7200 vert/ 17 miles a week .

Now on week 5 getting 10000ft a week over 35 miles. I just go up ski hill every day after work. 2500 climb 3 mile up 3 down. 1st race 6 weeks out . 3800 climb 7 mile round trip.

    Lost 30 lbs in 30 days. (230 to 200)

2nd race is NOrthFace Climbathon with 20,000 vert then in oct my first marathon

I should be burned out by then, I reckon

    ...but in case you can't,

I just saw Mammoth has a 9842.52 ft run in August I think. 3,000 ft of elevation gain.

I have sea level lungs with legs for bridges, not mountains.
I will die try to run anything over 700 vert.

    I'm so comforted.

My current time to go up 4k is about twenty minutes too slow for my comfort. Gotta fix that

Hang on a sec. 5k is way more than 9800', ain't it? God damned dirty meric system...

Yep, it didn't look right but I was too lazy to figure out why. 9,800 ft is 3 km, 5 km is 16,404.1995 ft.

Yeah, when I read it I was like, damn that's a whole lot of elevation over a very short distance. Like walking up step stairs... Still 3k vert over 16k feet is plenty steep for me.

I am not sure of the course, but I assume they are running up to the top of Mammoth Mt from one of the base lodges.

Turns out it is 2,000' vert, not three. Starts at main lodge and finishes on the summit, 11,053' and goes via the Kamikaze downhill bike trial. Still sounds tough.

Jeepers, is there anything Kilian can't do? Dude must've took a digger like 50m in and dislocated his shoulder. Reset it and taped it to his chest then went on to finish the race winning it for the 4th consecutive time.

Kilian is an aerobic freak. HR100 is the perfect course for him. I'd like to see him try Barkley. A dozen of my ultra friends still on the course. Karl Meltzer dropped. More to the story there because he's as tough as they come.

My running days are likely over due to advanced patellofemoral bone-on-bone OA in my left knee and upcoming total knee replacement. It's been a good run. Time to get back on the bicycle for my daily aerobic training. I already miss my daily runs. So glad I got into ultrarunning 23 years ago and became part of the ultra community. I plan to keep my toe in the ultra waters via race volunteering.

A buddy of mine is a sales rep for one of the artificial joint mfgs and he's always saying how far the tech has come in recent years. The advent of microsurgery and even robotics in the or has changed the game with regard to outcomes. Good luck when you get there, Steve.
