You guys make it tough not to be intimidated. But I'm managing. Mostly cuz I run alone and when I'm out there, only the trail keeps me company...

well except for today... couldn't help but notice some REALLY FRESH moose tracks... kinda started paying attention... saw it was dragging one hoof, a little... and then started getting nervous... it veered off to the right into a path into the woods and I HEARD IT CRASHING THRU STUFF!! Holy smokes... nothing like a little adrenalin shot.

    I made good time today.

I've officially quit running. I can't run more than 3 miles without my IT bands seizing up and hurting for days later, so it's just not worth it....oh well, always liked cycling better anyways, but I did like running when there wasn't enough light in the winter....

I'm sad for you... but if it hurts, you oughtn't to be doin' it...

I will run as long as my body holds out. And then prob'ly a few months after that. When you love it... you just love it.

Even when it's HARD... like tonight... the trail run was great but the third mile kicked my ass as I think I went out too hot on the first two. The last .7 was just keeping my head down and my feet moving. Came in a whole minute ahead of the last one which COMPLETELY VALIDATED MY EVENING!!! I am muddy, wet, smell bad, & feeling totally CORE about it, having had beers w/someone who actually flirted w/me in this disgusting state. No accounting for taste!!! (but good for a Cougar's ego)

SO GLAD I MADE MYSELF GO. (p.s. no wildlife to speak of...)

    I'm with ya, homey...

I can ride for a couple hours with no ill effects. If I run a couple miles, I pay for it with back pain for a week. I also can go a lot more interesting places on a bike. On a run, I just want to get home.

Very inspiring. It really makes you take a step back and think about hings, to be sure. Yeah, Dick Hoyt is quite the guy. I saw someone else do this at the 1987 Ironman as well - don't recall who it was though... It may have been him.

My back still hurts when I run though!

i used to feel exactly the same way, then my friend tought me how to really stretch, especially my hip flexors and then i went to an actual running store and got properly fitted. No I can run 6 or 7 miles pain free, if i stretch. If i don't stretch, i get pain

I use a CamelBack not sure which one but it only has room for my truck keys a gel flask or two, and the water bladder. I don't know if I would like something around me hips as I run. I see a lot of people with Fuel Belts at races so they must not be that bad.

well 28:34 in todays 5K, a minute slow than i had hoped, but I was expecting a flatter course. This one was either up or down with a uphill finish. I had fun, beat all but one of my friends.

Yay for you! I'm just hoping to find it in me to put in a few miles today, as it's hot and muggy. If it rains, I'm all over it! But my time will not be as fine as yours was today... Great job!

Other factor to consider -- I don't like to run!

I don't really have IT band, flexor, or foot issues - mainly lower back and sometimes knees (menisciotomy - stretching doesn't help much here...), so I can stretch all I want, but I still don't enjoy it any more. As I had mentioned before, if I was still about 150# rather than 185#, I might sing a different song.

Put in a respectable 4.2 miles... license to eat & drink for the remainder of the day.

Not good I have not been on a run over 8 miles in a month. But I did get a new pair of shoes.

10.6 miles yesterday... my "hills" route from last year's marathon training. I thought that it was but 9 miles... clocked it with my ipod gizmo yesterday for the first time.

on a related note, i find odd 90s era hip-hop / rap to be mildly inspiring when running.... Onyx SLAM popped onto my ipod at a tiring moment and it got me going. I think I'm going to look for some more old school (skool?) stuff like that as it has this weird ability to both get me moving faster and to give me a sh!t-eating grin as I'm running along.

speaking of running playlists, i used to have one before my ipod was stolen by some dicknosed TSA agent. but that aside, for runs of 45 minutes or less, mine was characterized by angry, loud songs kind of alternating between fast and moderate tempos..

    BYOB/System of a Down
    Ten Ton Hammer/Machine Head
    Chop Suey/SoaD
    Down With the Sickness/Disturbed
    Killing in the Name/Rage
    For whom the Bell Tolls/Metallica
    Caught in a Mosh/Antrax
    Mota/Offspring
    M of Puppets/Metallica

    what's on yours?

    Add (along the same genre):

South Texas Deathride and Mr. Deadman - The Union Underground
    Wait and Bleed - Slipknot
    various songs by Trapt
Send the Pain Below - Chevelle
    Mindtrip - Nonpoint

non-genre, I'll go with more chill music: Jack Johnson, Dispatch, OAR..

Not a good training week for the trail run tonight... I doubt I'll continue the trend of taking time OFF... all about doing it though.

Maybe I should consider the angry music thing... God knows the boy-o has some.
