    Official Moab Ride Coordination Thread

Figured this would be better than starting a new thread every weekend.

Anyone gonna be around Moab on Saturday 3/31? Looking to do a morning ride if anyone's up for it.

I'm very much intending to take a trip sometime this spring to demo bikes and see what all the hullabaloo is about.

Met up with Crinkle and a bunch of his buddies to ride Porc yesterday. The weather was perfect, and despite a few mechanical difficulties we had an awesome time. I was too busy riding to take pictures, but you know what that trails looks like anyway. It's definitely prime riding season right now, so come get some.

I believe it's Jeep Safari weekend. Which would be fun, minus the not being able to find anyplace to camp part and there being like a million people in town.

We've never gone on a jeep safari weekend, so I don't know firsthand, but from everything I've heard it's really insane. Considering how difficult it's been to find a campsite lately with not much going on at all - I'd say it would be damn near impossible to stay anywhere near Moab this weekend unless you have someone saving you a spot right now.

Maybe someone who's gone during jeep week can give better beta.

I've been before, and can say that it's by far the busiest weekend in Moab the whole year. Hotel rooms are booked out a year in advance and campsites are gone by the beginning of the week. With Lion's Back campground closed, there is less camping.

Jeep Safari is fun in a jeep, but not on a mountain bike.

i left town on sunday this past weekend and it was already waaay busier than i have ever seen it. tons of jeeps. We scored a sweet campsite at slickrock on thurs afternoon, by thurs evening it was a cavelcade of people cruising for sites and the sign was up that the campground was full on friday morning. when riding on friday day, we saw a line up of 30 jeeps waiting to do fins'n things. there is a written schedule up of the trials they are doing, so you could sort of avoid them if you find a place to stay.

FYI - While there is a schedule of the trails the organized Jeep Safari is doing, That does not include the 5 times as many Jeeps that didn't "officially" sign up to be part of those activities. Only 1 in 5 Jeeps has signed up for those group rides. It's pretty safe to assume that any doubletrack will be in use. I'm sure the couple singletrack rides will be pretty deserted, but as others said, where do you sleep?

the entire moab area will be packed. PACKED. But I've always had a good time riding out there that weekend. Just don't ride Poison Spider. It is like a highway on Safari Weekend.

I'll be out there the 4/21 weekend with some folks who don't ride all that well. i'd love to hook up with someone who can ride so I can escape for a 1/2 or full day or something... Blue? Gold Bar ST?

Even the official 4x4 site describes it as "Mardi Gras", and says if you want to enjoy some peace and quiet or anything other than wall to wall people and jeeps, it's best for you to hit Moab on another weekend. I think it would be a fun experience, but I think you'd be camped in Fruita and commuting to ride unless you reserved something now for next year or head down before it starts to find a campsite.

there's a reason to get a 2nd place in moab, right there

... or the maggot collective can just buy up a sweet as double-wide somewhere and share that as a biking-base.

    hehe.
but don't listen to me, cuz I almost always stay at the schmancy resort (even on busy weekends)... i rarely camp in moab. i much prefer the hottubs and gourmet meal after a long ride.

camping with the maggots once in awhile is a fun treat- even then, i've only been out to that kane creek spot.

I have been (unintentionally) to Moab during jeep safari, and it is indeed insane. Absolutely avoid Poison Spider at all costs, but Slickrock was fine, and I would imagine Porc would be OK. Amasa would be one to avoid I bet. As far as camping goes, the best spots to camp in Moab are on BLM land anyway. They are free, and you don't have to be next to 8 thousand people all the time (isn't this one of the things that are good to avoid when camping?). Route 313 on the way to Canyonlands has tons of little dirt roads that shoot off into BLM land that you can always camp on. Never had trouble finding a spot. I only stayed at an "official" pay campsite in Moab once, and I greatly prefer the free BLM ones. A lot of them have fire rings and room for plenty of people too if you are rolling in a crew.

I'll be heading down to Moab and Fruita within a few days of the mountain closing (4/15). I have 2-3 weeks of free time, a couple paychecks, and nothing to do so my plans are pretty much whatever I want them to be. If anyone's going to be down there during that time (either place) and can think of a good way to meet up I'd be happy to go on a ride--granted you can deal with being around a punk ass 19 year old.

so you wantt a lil adventure?

Hey whats up yall new to tgr forum. So i finish work up in b.sky on april 18, and am promptly headed toward Moab from the 19-21. this is the beginning of my spring epics trip. on the 22/23 im headed to Vegas to see my step bro and new nephew (super stoke). on the 23 im headed out of town to ride the Bootleg Canyon Epic in Boulder City, and headin toward Cali. on the 24th Id like to do a ride outside of bakersfield (Cannel Plunge, Toad, suggestions?)Then up to Henry Coe Epic at Morgan Hill on the 26. I have good friends stayin in San Jose, so ill be there till 27/28 (lettin my body rest, seein as i had acl surgery 3 months ago). from there my trip gets a little hazy, as i am not sure whether anything in Downieville/ nearby is rideeable (too wet) or should i head farther west and ride something in humboldt/trinity/mendocino county. by the 30th id like to be in oregon, riding the north umpqua epic (roseburg) may1st. being as ive never seen the oregon coast, and i here it is a must do, im headin to coos bay and up the coast , then over to Eugene by the 3rd (any ride suggestions within 30mi of Eugene?!). Early May 4 will be spent seein a friend in Bend (again, maybe a short ride suggestion near Bend?). that afternoon im truckin to athol idaho for the cycleo de mayo fest, then back to big sky and beginning summer employment. all in all this about a 3500 mile venture for about three weeks. Im campin whereever i dont have to pay, food is already taken care of (workin in the restaurant business does have a few perks). gas will run between 6-700 bones (eh), and finally i have purchased a case of good sake for those few downtimes on the trip. I am bringing my 5x5 norco xc and 7x7 ironhorse freeride rigs, as i am confident with tackling all trail types. Right now i am rollin solo, but if any yall wanna meet up and ride at any of those locations/ times aforementioned, or put me up for a night (paid in good sake), hit me up. Oh yeah, and any other trail/ camping suggestions are mucho appreciated. thank you and have a good day.

Anybody going down this weekend? I'm going to be driving through, either hitting Moab (Porcy) or Fruita (Zip or Horsethief) for a Friday morning ride, weather permitting. I'll be alone so would be cool to meet up with magg(s) if anyone's riding that day...

    edit: that'd be Friday 4/13
