I'll just say that I use to tour with NX21's and Salomon alpine boots. I managed. Anything more than a few mile and I was miserable but would just suck it up. Then I bought Garmont Megarides and holy shit did I love to tour. I started going out every other day. I feel like I could go for miles and miles and miles without any foot pain at all.

I think that AT boots are well worth the coin.

Deadmon, if you can get cash to afford stiff AT boots, then do it.
If you are talking Megarides, Denalis, or other old school softies, then don't bother. You will lose a lot of hard charging ability compared to the Falcons.
If you are going Axon or Factor, etc, then hell yeah, you can prolly get by with one boot.

Also, it depends on the touring. The worst is long hikes in alpine boots. Skinning not so bad, but hiking and walking without a walking cuff sucks ass.
    Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
    Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason

As in this could be the solution to my pain issues? Maybe- haven't gotten a pair yet as I've been planning on putting my faith in a bootfitter for a diagnosis and cure.

This definitely helps in the justification of purchase dept. Thanks for the input.

Also helpful, thanks. What I can't afford is to invest cash in the current boots only to realize touring in them will be torture. If I do go and make the purchase I'd be looking for the one-boot-to-do-it-all. I'm leaning towards ditching the Guns, going for something like the BD Method or Factor.

As for the type of touring... can't really predict, I'd guess a little from column a, little from column b. But I don't want to close doors by choosing the wrong equip. when it's avoidable.

if you don't have an inner-sole, it's not gonna matter what boot you get. And when you go to the boot fitter, they'll recommend an inner sole. If they don't you should go to another store. It's not just an addon sale, it works. There is force squishing your foot from the top and sides and nothing on the bottom. That's why your foot hurts. If your arch isn't really high, or weird, or something else, superfeet may work, just make sure the arch lines up right, or you will learn the pleasure of a nice lump under your foot while skiing.
    No longer stuck.

So do I sell the boots, save the bootfitting cash, and spring for stiff-ish AT boots that I can use with both my touring and alpine setups? Or do I suck it up for a season, get the fitting work done, and tour with the Guns for a season?

I got Garmont endorphins last year, they have the convertible din/AT sole so they fit any binding AT or alpine except dynafit ,I think i only put my alpines on once or twice last season .IMO There is exactly enough performace to run a 100mm ski ,I can put em on and leave em buckled till 2 hrs after I get off the snow

I noticed last feb at whistler canadian championships/worldcup the overwhelming boot of choice for the 250 race course workers (mostly old ski bums)was garmont AT either endorphin/xena or adrenelin

Thanks, leaning towards the endorphins. Deciding if I should spring for intuitions off the bat.

Huntermtn- yeah, I see your point, and have 'em in my older boots. I should have had them off the bat with the Guns, but didn't have confidence in what was being offered at the sale. The days I put on the Guns were all before I could get myself to a decent bootfitting. Should probably just throw in some superfeet like you say (don't think I have atypical feet) and see what difference that makes. The real issue now was whether to invest any cash at all, or just cut losses and go through this with the new boots.

for me the answer is the answer is maybe

they do have that fuck up and you will break yer ankle feelin but IMO thats mostly cuz the tounge is way lower than it needed to be ,you never really break yer ankle

I use the original liners for the BC which I have decided actualy feel perfect for that app .

For the hill I got some higher tounged "conformables" liners which I use with a dakine power strap both of which were kicking around so I tried em

of course your milage may vary

Stiffer AT boots have come on line since the xena/endorphins which should proivide even more performance,so IMO the new AT boots can provide enough performance for a 1 boot quiver but I don't really know anything specificly about them
