Scarpa Denali TT with Flexon tongue swap - questions & how-to

I have red Scarpa Denali TT boots, and 2 sets of Flexon tongues that I'm going to try to swap in. The Flexons I have are exactly what Meathelmet had in his thread here (one yellow/red, one black/gray):
    http://tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38311

I removed the stock Scarpa tongue. The Flexon tongues use a metal wire bracket to mount to the boot shell; the Scarpa tongues use a hole cut in the plastic, which latches in place on the boot shell. Not a direct fit, so some modification required.

Anyone here put Flexons on their Denalis? Tips/ trick/ instructions, before I break out the Dremel and destroy some Flexon tongues?

If I cut a rectangular hole in the Flexon tongues, to mirror the Scarpa tongue attachment to the shell, I'm concerned this will allow moisture into the boot: the Flexon tongue does not look like it will conform to the Scarpa boot shell as well as the stock Scarpa tongue.

see my DIY info in this months skiing mag (no, really it is in there)

get the dremel out, grind off the metal thing on the flexons and cut a slot to match the scarpa ones.

no issue with water that I have seen, but a bit of weather stripping will help that a bit.

Also a rear spoiler will help to reduce the rearward lean at the boots top. PM me if you need some

search around here, I've posted about doing this on someone elses thread...

Thanks -- new issue of Skiing arrived yesterday, haven't looked at it yet. I searched around for variations on flexon, tongue, randonee, modification, etc., and didn't find your post. I have some rear spoilers from some other boots, will try that at some point too (one mod at a time though). The Denalis have an adjustable forward lean, and mine are cranked pretty far forward as it is.

I'll do the Dremel thing this weekend, and post pics of the process.

Thanks mntlion -- (why didn't those show up on my search? hmm...)

Since I assume Rascal King never has anything of value to add, here's his contribution:

If you put people on your ignore list does it just not let them send you PMs or does it make thier posts vanish when you look at threads?

Lou Dawson has this on his WildSnow website for a Laser conversion, which should be similiar to the Denali, if you want an additional info resource.

For my flexon/laser mating I just hacked the flexon tongue to resemble the laser tongue, have not noticed any leakage problems.

Did the Flexon tongue mod tonight. Was going to take pics, but all I could show would be the same as on Lou Dawson's site:
    http://www.wildsnow.com/tips/lazer_mod.html

Just follow those instructions and it'll be fine. I also ground down 2 ridges under the toe of the Flexon tongue, that pushed the tongue a bit higher off the Denali shell.

mntlion - nice writeup in Skiing too. Timely...

Now we just need some snow to test out the "new" boots.
