Whoa! I skied the Rubies on Saturday and I'm really, really impressed. They absolutely railed on the groomed. They reminded me of a slightly fatter 1st gen Gotama with a little more sidecut. Essentially, the perfect ski.

i thought they were less turny than gotamas, and slightly softer. real stiff under foot though. stable for sure.

    8 - LP / Monster / explosiv / dp #3 / capital stiffs (260)
    7 - big daddy / stockli dp (250)
6 - ANT / extra stiff kingswood / stiff bros
    5 - mantra / ak swallowtail / dp #2 (240)
    4 - gotama / soft bros / reg. kingswood (230)
    3 - yellow ak rockets / sugar daddy ?
    2 - PR / lawnchair (200 or less)
    1 - sanouk/made'n
    0 - green ak rockets

    Thinking I need a new tele set-up...
i think they would be in the 3-4 range there. similer to the seth in flex, but stiffer underfoot, and a little stiffer tail. i think they are softer than gotama, but i had a demo pair that may have been broken down a bit.

^^^ That seems about right on the flex to me (only hand flexed).
    Couldn't pass up a pair for $250

Now or some tele binders and to figure out how to get skins on these things.

The 1st gen Gots were fairly soft compared to their newer bretheren. That said, the Ruby tips seem a bit softer. I charged through some frozen chunder and the tips were flapping everywhere, but underfoot the ski was absolutely railing. They just hooked up so well for me. I love the newer Gots, but sometimes I miss the flexy floatiness of the original ones.

Anyway, screw the comparisons. It seems to me like the Ruby is the ski I've been lusting for. Plus they're super light. I'm thinking this is my new AT ski fo sho!

is there any grounds for us to start a grassroots campaign to get a 193 Ruby?

What would you think of the 188 Ruby with a melee rocker.
Compared to the ruby what is the Melee like? (versitility, turning?)
