    Building Rails and Boxes

Has anyone in the past built any rails or boxes? In particular i am thinking of building a flat box about 12ft or so and need a plan or some diagrams of some sort. Also what materials are used as the top sheet material? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

If you can jong, then I have to Jong you, JONG.

And if you do build a rail or box, do it in a place where lots of people ski and leave it there so it'll break someone's leg as they charge through 2' of pow!!

Build it out of snow and ice since that's always there in the winter.

search over at newschoolers. you'll have to weed out all the 6-12 year old bullshit but i'm sure you'll find plans there for something. I know there's a few different sets of plans for a drop-in ramp there that are legit.

I built a really shitty "rail" out of PVC pipe and wood this summer. It looked like crap but still did the job. Its pretty much just trial and error, and is pretty self-explainitory. If you have welding stuff I'd use metal, but PVC is easier to work with (but also won't make as good of rail). Use thicker pipe, it will be less flimsy.

I don't know what the top part of a box is, some sort of plastic.

If you are just using it for personal use, you can build a box frame of 2x4s cover in plywood, add some small pvc to the edges and wax it down.

For rails, a 4x4 works as a sturdy base, then add legs make these out of 2x4s, make them a little longer than you think, put a t at the bottom. Use some more pvc pipe to the 4x4 Drill a few holes in the pipe and screw to the board. Bury the legs into the snow, add a ramp up.

Just think about it and they should be easy to build with supplies from any lowes or Home Depot.

my buddy built a nice box out of 2x6 and puckboard on top. (dunno what the technical name for puckboard is, but thats what the dude at the hardware store called it) it wasn't cheep.
