    Look at the photo:

Obviously he was just trying to please his ski sponsor. Most skiers wait till after they finish to click out and hold their skis up. Bode just does things his own way.

    Fucking GNAR...

"It's tough. I knew I was pretty much going to crash in the finish if I skied the last 'S' like I wanted to," Miller said. "I was pretty prepared for it.

"When you ski for 2 minutes, 30 seconds before that and you don't know how far you're going to jump, well, let's say I didn't have it in my head I was going to land on my feet."
"I knew in an instant that the three dollars I had spent on wine would not go to waste."

    Standing up?
    Sitting down?

He still won, thats all that matters.

I am surprised that he didn't take a bigger slam into the retaining fence.

He wasn't the only one who crashed through the finish in that race, there were about 4 others who did the exact same thing. Another 3 skiers had some pretty hairy bails on course as well.

That was one of the craziest races so far this season, the course was crazy fast and technical.

Bode killed the 2nd place time and was by far the best skier out there.

it sucks that the world cup doesn't appear on tv in this country but I can flick through the channels any time of the day or night and see at least 3 poker games and Rachael Ray stuffing her face

In one the other crashes on course the Dude's(sorry can't remember skier's name) helmet came right off. Footage showed the course officials giving him crap for it.

The end of that course is just brutal, people crash there every year. Great work by Bode on this one.
You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

I can't believe that whole course, the narrow cat tracks the last few gates...

Never get away with that sort of thing on a course in North America.
It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy

That was a gnar finish, but some of the other finishes were way more intense. I forget who it was now, but one of the guys running in the top 10th seeds took a dirty spill at the finish, slamming his head etc. Sullivan's crash was pretty wild too, i've never seen a helmet fly clean off like that.

You wouldn't get away with it anywhere, these days. The classic courses sometimes have crazy shit, and that's how the Lauberhorn is--check out the movie (classic, classic movie) Downhill Racer for a funny Lauberhorn scene. Some courses you look at and think they'd be fun, but Kitzbuhel, Lauberhorn, Birds of Prey and a few others are pretty scary.

I'm pretty sure Peter Fill, who came in 3rd, crashed at the finish too. And a few guys went right under the barriers. wcsn.com has full coverage for only $6 a month, more racing than has ever been on TV in NA. Commentators suck sometimes, but Bob Beatty (or Fleischer, for that matter) isn't so fun to listen to either.

Coverage in canada isn't too bad. although they usually have the races on Saturday at noon or 2pm.. when everyone who's interested is skiing! I try and record what i remember to.

    When is Kitzbuhel?

It was quite a display by Bode. That video came from WCSN.com, which is a subscription-based site that allows you to watch all the WC races, in full (both runs of everyone) for 5 bucks a month.

I watched the whole thing, and what I don't understand is why they didn't do a helicopter follow of Bode. They randomly followed some racers down with a chopper so that you could see their whole run, but quite often it was no-name guys who didn't have a shot. Makes no sense...

The article mentions Marco Sullivan losing his helmet:
Eleven skiers crashed mid-race and others fell at the finish. Sullivan fell so violently that his helmet flew off, but he was not hurt.

"The soldier dude gave it back to me and the neck strap was still closed," Sullivan said. "Next time I'll have to strap it a bit tighter."
Change is good. You go first.
