A Video TR: How to Bend Brakes

step one. install the heel and brakes.
step two. bend the brake straight out.
step three. bend the brakes around the ski
step four. fine tune the brakes. make sure they sit flush and tuck in nicely.
step five. get a beer. you earned it.

the video fits a skinny brake around a 125mm waisted ski. i have fit skinny's on 138's. the arms are super short, but they kinda work.

It looks to be a handlebar from a bike. I'm sure 1/2" i.d. would work, the i.d. of the bike handlebar is prbably about 3/4" so it makes a little larger radius. I'll let marsh clarify things, though.

and yes, i use a 110g ti handlebar to bend brakes. seriously.


handlebars or short sections of yakima bar work well, as do broken ski poles. or any pole, as long as it has the girth.

I have used both a seat post and a handle bar. Both worked fine.

The video makes it look so easy. Like to see someone do some P18 brakes in the same time

Look brakes use much tougher metal...I'm afraid I'll explode the plastic housing if I try to do it that way. Can anyone offer advice?

Spats you could try heat but with enough leverage and a large hammer anything is possible, even look/ rossie brakes.

Do you have to check if they fit around the other ski when you put them together? Or is that automatic as long as you did steps 1 - 5 correctly?

p14's work in the same way. there is alot more slop in the look brake though, so they don't turn out quite as pretty, but they are just as easy to do.

Did the exact thing for a pair of my Pow +'s from skinny brakes although I gotta say it took me a hell of a lot longer than 5x seconds.

My effort was complete with a ski that took a run down our carpeted stairs from me dropping it. Mrs. Comish wasn't too impressed with the skis run down the stairs, but it was previously untracked...

My ACL and MCL aren't manly enough to ride such an awesome binding. I need little girl bindings like the PX12 and Pivot 120.
